Sadly, many parents wouldn’t agree. Reason….in HS, little Johnny has to compete for a position. In travel, you pay for one. That’s the difference and most parents will never admit that.

I coach varsity H.S. baseball and travel ball… and I’d take H.S. baseball every single time. The school pride. The community. The rivalries. The pressure to win. The packed playoff games. Playing for your town. In my eyes H.S. baseball just means more.

@CoachSwit Been that way since 2010. Hitters now adjusting getting up the plate. Pitchers need to come in harder now - then go back outside with off speed because of the pull side HR showcase/exit velo mentality. The game changes but it doesn't

Dear H.S. Hitters: Pitchers aren’t missing inside anymore. They’re living away because most of you can’t handle it. Everybody wants to pull HRs. Nobody wants to hit a hard single the other way. Learn to use the whole field. You can thank me later.

I have talked to D1 coaches from almost every conference, P4 and Mid Major, with records ranging from single digit wins to 40 wins.. If you are a pitcher hitting the portal the FIRST question I get is “Does he throw strikes?”.. don’t hit the portal after a 20 inning 30 walk season just because you throw 95.

Pregame matters!! How you prepare before a game is a huge evaluation time for coaches/scouts. You may not get a ball hit to you during the game! Work with intent, at game speed and under control. Spoke to a college coach today, told me he stopped recruiting a player because his pregame was lazy. It translates!! You’re always being evaluated!!

On poor teams, captains lead by popularity. On great teams, captains lead by example. They arrive early, stay late, train hard, & apply the same high standards off the field.

You rarely see great players:. - Complain. - Blame others. - Cut corners. - Sulk. - Make excuses. - Arrive late.

Players hoping the guy in front of them fails… aren’t competitors—they’re distractions. Good teams aren’t built like that. If your mindset is “I need him to struggle so I can play,” you’ve already lost. Coaches don’t trust players like that.
