As Chair of the Senate Higher Education Committee, I know how important it is that our K–12 and higher education systems work together and stay focused on student success. I appreciate the Chancellor’s commitment to that mission and to our schools.

I met with NYC CUNY Chancellor Félix V. Matos Rodríguez in Albany to talk about how we strengthen our public education system and better support students, families, and educators across Queens and New York City.

From financial aid to campus resources, students spoke about what is working and where we can do better. I appreciate CICU’s partnership and the students who took the time to share their experiences with me.

I sat down with Lola Brabham, President of the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities (CICU), and a group of students for a candid discussion about the challenges and opportunities facing New York’s independent colleges.

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to meet the Rev. Jackson at a Korean Center as he looked to build bridges throughout the community. My prayers are with his family this week.

I was happy to welcome Samra, Veena, Misirdai, and Geelha from India Home to Albany and speak about their programs and the construction of their new housing facility.

Met with the Coalition of Asian American Independent Physician Association (CAIPA), an organization of independent practitioners, to discuss issues impacting Asian American communities and the importance community-based services.

I stand with New Yorkers to say clearly: it is time for the ultra-wealthy to pay what they owe so we can invest in our students, our families, and our future.

I met with constituents Krizia and Mekayla to talk about New York’s Birth Control Access Program and what it means on the ground for patients and providers. I love to see our local college students involved in advocacy and policy issues in Albany!

Our government must protect people’s rights and keep communities safe. Anything less is unacceptable.

No one should be shot and killed by ICE agents. Too many lives have already been lost. We are demanding a full, independent investigation, respect for due process, and a recommitment to the basic American values of dignity, accountability, and the rule of law.

I stood with my colleagues in the Legislature at a press conference it the Capitol to show solidarity with the people of Minnesota and call for justice, accountability, and transparency in the face of two fatal federal enforcement actions in Minneapolis.

This morning, I met with SUNY Chancellor King to discuss continuing our historic tuition freeze while ensuring State aid continues to support our students.
