@MarshallYates_ The House is fine and in working order. Gave a tour last week. The Senate won't be a problem either because they only vote by voice. Will just look funny.

A new look for the Alabama Senate. They’ve brought in temporary tables to serve as make shift desks ahead of Monday’s special session. The regular desks are being dismantled and moved into the new State House. #alpolitics

Here's the story from Claire, Alex and me on the special session starting Monday. The details are interesting. It's not actually a session for redistricting. It's for setting special election dates for AL-1 & AL-2 should the Supreme Court allow the the state to revert to the original 2023 map. Read more: aldailynews.com/gov-ivey-calls… #alpolitics

Update: Gov. Kay Ivey is preparing to call a special session of the Alabama Legislature to address redistricting. Could be announced any minute. We'll have to see what's in the call, but I'm told it is in anticipation of SCOTUS remanding the court order restricting any map changes until 2030 to a lower court and beginning the process of having it lifted. So, Alabama leaders are confident that will happen on Monday. In any case, it looks like the Legislature is coming back to the old State House next week for one more run! #alpolitics

You said the governor is calling a special session after a lobbying campaign by Katherine Robertson, Steve Marshall and Wes Allen. That’s not true. They are all on the same team trying to get the court to lift an order restricting the state from updating its map before 2030. There may well be a special session, and preparations are underway in the State House to make ready for it. But it only makes sense if the order is lifted, hence the request for expedited review.

The legacy media is so embarrassing. After trying to dunk on me for reporting that Governor Kay Ivey intends to call a special session (likely to deter her), he tweeted this subsequent tweet all but confirming said scoop 9 minutes later. 😂😂

@Cjpearson If you someone is telling you that Steve Marshall, Katherine Robertson and Wes Allen are lobbying the governor to defy the court and call a special session before the order is lifted, they are lying to you.

Well placed sources? Man, I got em and that’s not what is happening. It has been about the order from the very beginning. Stop preening. Folks on the ground have this covered.

NEWS: Well-placed sources in Alabama politics tell me that after a successful lobbying campaign by @AGSteveMarshall, @KGRob27, and Secretary of State Wes Allen, that Governor Kay Ivey WILL indeed call a special session to redraw congressional maps. This is HUGE news.

Can report that preparations are being made in the Alabama State House just in case a special session is called. Work has already started on dismantling the Senate chamber in preparation for the new State House. But more important are the House voting machines and the voice reader.

Another somewhat complicating factor is the Alabama Legislature is moving out of the current State House to a new building across the street. They've already started dismantling the Senate floor. Prob nothing they couldn't figure out for a special session but notable. #alpolitics

Most Republicans would like to redraw right away in order to add two pick-ups for 2026. But there are two complicating factors: 1. The election is 20 days away, ballots have been printed and absentee voting is already underway 2. The 2023 Supreme Court ruling barred Alabama from changing its maps again until 2030. The state has asked for a review of that ruling. Sounds like Gov. Ivey will only call a special session if SCOTUS lifts that restriction. And even then the ongoing nature of the election will make for lawsuit catnip. So, once again, we wait on the Supreme Court to see what's next for Alabama's congressional map.

Alabama Republicans want to redistrict the state’s congressional map in the wake of the monumental Supreme Court decision against race-drawn districts in Louisiana, and they likely have the power to do so. The question is when. #ALPolitics

There are, of course, a lot of moving parts after the Supreme Court's ruling today. But the big question is not whether Alabama will redraw its congressional districts, but when. Alex, Claire and I are tracking down answers. Here's our latest--> aldailynews.com/whats-next-for… #alpolitics
