If we end up doing ‘better’ in the World Cup, it’s not gonna matter outside of promoting the sport. Make a culture change at the grass roots level is the only definitive… Hopefully in my lifetime 🙃

I understand your feelings on it. But I can’t speak in absolutes like you (“usa will -never-…) That’s just not a realistic way of looking at anything. As a “nation” (excluding the Olympics), we said the same thing about USA Hockey 30+ years ago, barely being able to assemble a competitive team in the 90s. Now here they are, ranked number 1 in hockey development in the world. Realistically speaking, we definitely have a long way to go if we ever want to be there with soccer/football (say top 3) But we’re slowly taking steps

Just like Australia, New Zealand or India, the USA will never be a top football nation and that's ok. Doesn't mean we won't get far in the World Cup. South Korea made it to the Semifinals once.

Agreed 💯 However THAT reality isn’t quite as prevalent up here in the northeast as whatever parts of the USA that you’re referencing. There are large amounts of kids at schools outside playing soccer during recess, outside & inside after school and when they go on vacation. Although this doesn’t ring true for the entire nation, I go back to the only point I was making… It’s gotta start somewhere

@TomLockjr @TheRallyMullet @collinsanity @USMNT What you fail to understand is that in the playgrounds, the schools, the back yards, the streets and other public recreational spaces of other countries- you will see people of all ages playing soccer. In the USA, we play basketball/baseball/flag football there. This matters.

Although we have a different name for world football (aka Soccer), the sport is still embraced the exact same way (a rose by any other name) So if you want to be culturally bias all based on a “name,” then that’s your prerogative 🤣 The original point is not to look negatively on the USA in “soccer,” as it’s certainly climbing the ladder. Top 10 in football/soccer pro leagues (out of 76 in the world) is certainly progress since at one point, we were at the very bottom
