I watched a zoomer on YouTube doing a Let’s Play and was genuinely flabbergasted at the lack of reading skills. He’s not reading the letters, he’s looking at each word and uttering the closest match in his head. This works out most of the time, but then he gets to words like bastion, expeditionary, and Ferdinand, and he’ll struggle for a couple of seconds before coming up with… battalion, experienced, and Fernandez. He can scarcely make out some of these words, let alone shift the tone of his voice based on the sentence, capitalization [of entire sentences], character animations in cutscenes, and context clues in general — it’s almost entirely monotone with this guy. And he takes it word by word, so if a speech bubble disappears and he’s on the last two or three words, he wouldn’t know what they were — he is simply unable to scan <10 words in the blink of an eye and let his mouth catch up.

This has happened to nearly half a million children in the UK alone. That doesn’t include the millions and millions all across Europe silently swept under the rug by complicit judges and politicians.
