EYECATCHER 👀 THE THIRD STAR ⚪️🔴 Tipped up on the Night Before service - this was one that got away a little. 10/1 into 11/5 favourite (stupid price), but could only manage 5th. The Third Star had already shaped well several times for Chris Dwyer, especially at Chelmsford last time, where she raced 3-wide throughout but still travelled strongly into the straight. Returning from a break here and now with Owen Burrows, she was well backed all day and strong again at race time. On the face of it, finishing 5th looked disappointing, but I’m convinced the race set-up was against her. There looked to be a bit of early pace on through the first furlong, so Callum Rodriguez took her back and looked for cover. The problem was she ended up behind the keen-going Bella Bisbee, while the two in front steadied the tempo. From there, the front two dictated, lifted it before the home turn, and ultimately stayed first and second throughout. The Third Star was left too far back when the race developed and was only really finding her stride late, making up ground through the line. On that evidence, there’s definitely a race or two to be won with her. It’s also worth noting she finished with the highest finishing speed % (104.03% - screenshot attached) A more positive ride, or simply a stronger gallop to aim at, could see her in a much better light next time.

EYECATCHER 👀 Been a few weeks, so here’s a Wednesday night one… THURSO 🟡🟢 Ran today under claimer Oliver Hoodless. Drawn wide and typically slow to stride, he ended up out the back early - and was then taken very wide around the bend. From there, he had no chance. Despite that, I thought it was a solid effort to finish as close as he did given the ground he covered. Suggests he’s not far off striking. He’s previously won off marks of 74, 72 and 64, and is now likely to drop to around 68/69 (71 today) What to look for next time - More experienced jockey - Small to medium size field (wouldn’t want to get too far back if he starts slow) -Medium/strong pace - Stiff 6f or 7f Versatile on surface (AW + good to firm).
