Last night, Derek sat bolt upright in bed and started frantically searching the sheets. When I asked him if he was okay he replied “the beans” before going back to sleep.

@Laura_Katie_J It's true. The best way to describe grief is that it comes in waves. The description of it remaining the same size but you grow around it is so quite accurate. Allow yourself the grief waves.

One of the most surprising things I’ve learned about grief, although, I suppose, not really, is that it’s not linear. Natalie passed away almost two years ago and it’s still the rawest, most fresh pain I’ve ever felt.

Yesterday at the dinner table, while I was prattling on about something probably inane, I notice Derek was giving me this funny look. I asked him what he was thinking, and he says, “nothing, you’re just my best friend” and, ladies and gentlemen (and enby gentlefolk), I melted.
