The issue I have with William Ruto is not that's he's a puppet (almost all African presidents are and it's not entirely his fault).
My real issue is how he appears to revel and take real pride in puppetry, issuing these platitudes and sound bites with that off-brand, knockoff-Mandela style of his. It's so irritating to watch! 😩

France has not suddenly discovered equality. It has been pushed out of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger, and now it is looking for a new route back into Africa through leaders willing to help rebrand its influence. From the CFA franc to Niger’s fight over its own minerals, France’s record on the continent is not a partnership. It is extraction, control, and colonial power dressed up in diplomatic language. Kenya should know better than to help France launder its image in Africa.

When I was writing my masters thesis, I knew Mau Mau was banned in the 50s. But I assumed of course after independence, they'd be unbanned. I decided to look up the date so I could cite it. Mau Mau was unbanned in 2003! by the Kibaki administration. I clearly remember screaming.
