@pbasilstrength Training should have sport specific aspects but we here Dont train for the “sport” that's their coaches job! We make sure they are fast, strong, healthy and keep good recovery.

Should Training Be More Sport Specific?
This question comes up all the time.
Strength coaches often hear pushback from sport coaches who want things to look more like their game. But the truth is this: the foundation of training does not change. Strength, power, and quality movement carry over to every sport.
The challenge is not the science. It is the people.
Strength Coaches Are Support Staff
In a team or school setting, the head coach is in charge. They decide if they like you, if you fit, and if you keep your job.
That means part of our role is customer service. Many coaches miss this. You can have the best program in the world, but if the sport coach is not on board, it will not last.
Why Sport Coaches Want “Specific”
Sport coaches care about their game, not physiology.
When they ask for sport specific drills, what they are really asking is: How does this weight room work help me win games?
If your answer is a lecture about why their idea is wrong, you lose their trust.
Three Ways to Bridge the Gap
You can keep the foundation of your program and still give coaches what they want.
1. Ask what they have in mind
If they want something sport specific, ask for an example. Often it is just a quick drill you can slide into a warm up. Small effort, big buy in.
2. Show the transfer
Connect the dots. Explain how a squat builds power for sprinting or how a jump builds explosiveness for forceful output. Coaches want to see the link.
3. Use testing to prove it
Agree on a few key numbers that matter to the coach. Train to improve those numbers, then show the results. Now your work speaks for itself.
Balance Matters
The truth is that single leg strength, core stability, and explosive power help every athlete in every sport. That does not change.
But adding small touches that look sport specific keeps coaches and athletes invested. It could be one agility drill, one language adjustment, or one test result. None of these change your core program, but they build trust.
Final Takeaway
So, should training be more sport specific?
Yes and no.
Yes, in the sense that you should meet coaches halfway and show them how your program connects to their sport.
No, in the sense that the core of training is still strength, power, and quality movement.
At the end of the day, the best strength coaches are not just program designers. They are also communicators. They know how to balance what works with what people want.
That balance is what keeps you in the room. And you cannot help athletes if you are not in the room.

@pbasilstrength Yes. The rule at a certain Highschool in the Baytown area is that if you don’t run cross country you cannot be in the Soccer Class.

@gonz5307 Depends on the program. Time
Off for some athletes is going to get some extra workouts and training. Where time off to other athletes means gummie bears and fornite. I believe that the only week they should have off is 4th of July week. Its 168 hours in a week. 4-6hrs a day!
