@stillphosphor Hi, it's an Angle Shades. (Phlogophora meticulosa). It should be safe to release. They're quite hardy creatures and can cope with a bit of cold weather.

Also, is it safe to release now? Or should I wait till it’s dark? I’ve not raised a moth since I was a kid but that cold snap made me feel sorry for this guy! I’ve kept it in a cool place.

@ukmoths So, in January I brought a large, plain bright green caterpillar in my house which was eating brambles. It pupated about a week later as a shiny black pupa. It emerged today at about 2” long with banded wings in soft greys and browns & a rusty underbelly. Ident please?
