Rereading Susan Sontag's Platos Cave essay for something I'm writing, she uses the analogy so literally and seems to completely miss what actually makes Plato's analogy so interesting in relation to photography. Can someone remind me why she's still so influential in photography?

Looking through my archives and found these unrelated but mirroring photos. The 1st, shot in Cairo in 2014, was at a street wedding that hadn’t yet started. The 2nd, shot in in Casablanca in 2018, was at a football game that also hadn’t yet started. it pays off to be there early.
