A thread exploring the southern portion of Ward Parkway. 1/5 The current configuration for this stretch doesn’t work much for any road users. Vehicular lanes can be ambiguous with a seemingly random one-way segment. Pedestrian space is also limited with long crossings.

People need to understand this. Every apartment building with a dead end corridor (high %!) is just as “unsafe” as a single stair building. A fire in the corridor traps residents from stair access. This is an acceptable risk per the code. Single stair is no worse.

I’ve also considered starting—or joining and boosting—a KC urbanist-activist think-tank that’s strongly pro-infill growth, YIMBY/pro-housing, pro-bike/walk/roll-centered development/infra/policy. Broader & more conceptual than BWKC. Policy & political influencer power group.

This new pedestrian refuge island at Brookside and Emanuel Cleaver deserves some praise. It’s a wide space that feels comfortable to wait in. A pedestrian signal is placed in it to improve visibility. The curbs hug the vehicle lanes, creating REAL traffic calming. A+ design
