The Adoption Of The Mahama-Led UN Resolution Not Final Destination But Key Step Towards Reparatory Justice —Ablakwa
Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, says the country has taken a significant step in advancing justice on the global stage. This follows a decisive vote at the United Nations, where 123 member states supported the reparations resolution, 52 abstained, and only three voted against.
Addressing the media, he described the outcome as a powerful milestone. He noted that the overwhelming support reflects a growing recognition of historical injustices, emphasizing that Africans and people of African descent are being honored, with their humanity and dignity increasingly acknowledged.
Speaking on behalf of the African Group, he expressed deep appreciation to all countries that backed the resolution. He also acknowledged those who participated in the discussions with openness and good faith, even if they were not in a position to support it.
He stressed that the adoption of the resolution is not the final destination, but rather an important step in an ongoing journey toward reparatory justice. According to him, Ghana and its partners remain committed to continued dialogue and cooperation with all member states.
