Also, the dialogues are witty. #VarunDhawan is fabulous in both the funny & the emotional chunks. #SunnySanskariKiTulsiKumari Review ‘Fluff, Fun, Popcorn & Varun’s Punchlines..’ This latest rom-com brings back the vibe of those early 2000s, well-budgeted, feel-good, time-pass films. The first half is both entertaining and engaging, thanks largely to Varun Dhawan’s one-liners, comic timing, energetic presence, and full-on filmi andaaz. Some scenes in the first half are especially enjoyable — like Varun’s bad shayaris, his and Janhvi’s meeting with Rohit and Sanya, the reel-making sequences, the lift scene with Sanya, and the hilarious moment when Varun calls his parents. These moments are smoothly woven into the screenplay, supported by a couple of catchy songs, including the peppy track #Bijuriya. The second half starts on a high note but then dips and drags with serious scenes, while the comical elements dry out. On the positive side, there are a few good emotional moments and a couple of fun scenes that keep the essence of the film alive. If only these parts had more fun elements, the impact would have been twice as strong. The story might remind you of the Ajay Devgn–Kajol starrer Pyar To Hona Hi Tha, but it has its own merits to cherish. #VarunDhawan is the show-stealer and the jaan of the movie. He’s in his element and will be loved by everyone who adores his fun andaz. #JhanviKapoor looks great and manages to match Varun’s energy and comic timing. Though an actress like her deserves a couple of stronger dramatic scenes. #RohitSaraf is cute and charming, and so is #SanyaMalhotra. #ManishPaul provides good comic support. The story revolves around how Sunny and Tulsi in their quest to win back their love, try to break the marriage between their ex-girlfriend & boyfriend,played by #RohitSaraf and #SanyaMalhotra. But in the process, they unknowingly fall in love with each other and that forms the heart of the film. The narrative never lets the audience feel bored. The jokes though silly at times, successfully make you laugh. The emotional beats work quite well, and the drama is portrayed effectively. The songs and the scale of the film are also impressive. Director Shashank Khaitan has attempted to craft a quintessential Bollywood film keeping the audience hooked and booked from start to finish. While the film dips in a few places, there are always standout moments that lift the narrative back up. Some scenes between #VarunDhawan and #JanhviKapoor are performed exceptionally well. The last 20 minutes, along with the climax are the soul of the movie. Varun Dhawan excels in both comedic and emotional scenes, while Janhvi Kapoor looks gorgeous and delivers a fine performance. And you definitely know how it will end. Still, you go with the flow. You enjoy the moments. You stay entertained. And very importantly, you don’t get bored. That’s #SunnySanskariKiTulsiKumari for you. A sweet-n-simple film that has beautiful visuals with practically each of the four key characters being inherently nice and loveable, it doesn’t get overtly complicated and just follows a linear path where you enjoy it scene by scene. What could have been done better? Had the chemistry between #VarunDhawan-#SanyaMalhotra and #JanhviKapoor-#RohitSaraf been better established from the time that they were dating then as a viewer you would have connected with their love stories too. Here you know from the beginning that Varun and Janhvi are better off with each other. Also, the second half has too many songs which extend the film. That said, the climax of the film - albeit predictable - is quite satisfying and you have that big smile on your face. The song #Perfect that comes at the end is a “perfect finale” too. #VarunDhawan is a delight to watch and while he is at his witty and charming best, he comes on his own in a couple of dramatic scenes in the second half when he talks about women and what they should be fighting for when it comes to their core identity. #JanhviKapoor comes up with her best act till date and goes few steps ahead of #ParamSundari. Apart from being her gorgeous self, what she does well is emote correctly in many key scenes, hence showing once again that she is one of the best amongst the fresh talent. #SanyaMalhotra and #RohitSaraf are quite reliable and the best part is that they are not caricature. They emote sensibly without going overboard and only add to the good look of the overall storytelling. #AkshayOberoi and #ManishPaul add further weight to the film with their presence and are good with their performance. #ShashankKhaitan has made a film which works well as a festive entertainer.
