There’s that rock, floating in the darkness. Here I am, just floating in the light.

Surrender, But Never Quit. To ultimately get to where we’re meant to go, we may need to surrender to what we can’t control, and take a pause. A breath. A day or week or month. And just be. That doesn’t mean we quit. We surrender in the moment, with full faith that we will continue on our mission soon. But right now, I just need some rest. I’m already seeing clearly again. Life in a new way. youtu.be/4ULSMQCCbis?si…

I’d rather be a drop in a never-ending sea than a big fish in a small pond, substantial and beautiful with nowhere to swim. I long to be a drop with direction. Small. Striving to find — to create — my own meaning in life by floating through a roaring sea. Boundless. You can be a drop but that’s all you need to be, for a city is nothing but people, a sea nothing but raindrops, each a soul, each beautiful, each with the potential to make a difference in the world. vincentvanpatten.com/a-drop-in-the-…

Get into the gym when you can be alone. Play your favorite music loud. Let the tears and sweat fall. It’ll change your life.

We’re meant to move like kids, playing without thinking about our bodies. I won’t stop training, building, learning and improving until that’s my reality. A video describing my full chronic back pain story—how it started, my healing journey, and how it’s made me who I am. youtu.be/rLavi-bcLF8?si…

I’d rather be a drop in the ocean than a big fish in a small pond. Because every drop matters, ne? A simple soul. Small. Floating through the rain. Boundless. It’s amazing what a walk through some trees can do. Towering trees, leaves falling in the wind, and I feel small compared to it all. And that simplifies life. If everything has intrinsic worth it doesn’t matter how big or important or significant you are—every drop matter, every falling leaf matters, every blade of grass and tree. Every beat of the heart and step on the road. A drop can make all the difference in the world.

This is what content looks and feels like. I love places to sit. Sunshine. A coffee. A seat around people—not much to do. It’s a beautiful thing.

THIS PAST WEEKEND felt like the first breath of spring in Japan. I’ve been living here for over a year and a half. That amazes me. Still, it takes intention to see the magic in the world, for what was once a far-fetched dream has become my routine. Japan is home. It’s becoming more and more familiar. But I won’t let the magic fade. vincentvanpatten.com/open-your-eyes…
