Keeping hens confined in cages is outdated and cruel. The Government promised action in its Animal Welfare Strategy. Now it must deliver on its promises. Thanks to @humaneleagueuk for inviting me to the #UnlockTheCageAge protest.

Knocking on doors today and all we're hearing is that this by-election is Labour v Reform. No one else is even close. Only Reform can stop Labour in Makerfield.

@VoteGreen29 @doctoriaindarcy My politics is all about reducing inequality. That’s why I campaigned for Corbyn, and joined the Greens to vote for Polanski. But the time has come to change Labour and get Burnham in. Greens can go back to litter picking and caring for the badgers when he’s in.

@UnionJacked__ @doctoriaindarcy when it comes to jerks like you the gentlemanly thing is to be intolerant and point out your errant nonsense. Who said we were tolerant? No-one ever. We don't tolerate inequality.

The first duty of any Government is to keep the public safe. That means recognising that national security is changing. Alongside traditional threats, we need resilience against flooding, extreme heat, and food, water and energy insecurity.

@RupaHuq Green Party member here. I’ve been arguing that we shouldn’t waste undue effort & resources on someone else’s dogfight that doesn’t concern us, but Labour figures saying stuff like this makes me want to go to Wigan & knock on 10,000 doors myself, you supercilious, entitled gits.

Given first proper polling shows this is a straight Labour v Reform fight unlike Gorton and Denton and that Greens have no actual candidate after last one stepped down, there is a strong case for Green Party sitting this out out to stop Reform winning. Precedent exists in 2017

@GreenRupertRead @GreenJennyJones The same Andy Burnham who smeared @GreenPartyHan on his Manchester radio show during the mayoral elections here in Manchester? That one? How trustworthy is he? How many signatories do you have from Manchester/North-West?

There are lots of 'ifs' about the return of Andy Burnham to the HoC and people saying we Greens should stand aside and let him take the seat. Personally, I'll support whatever the local party decides to do, but my instinct is *always* to stand so that voters have a proper choice.

@LeftieStats @YouChampoReds To suggest that no-one had heard of the Green Party until Zack is bullshit. He revolutionised the party by making people believe their vote counts. Ignoring the past 40 years is idiocy. We, London Greens, voted Zack into London Assembly and he's gone from strength to strength

Under the leadership of these "senior" Greens, the party endured flop after flop. With Polanski, Greens are on 16%, won 6 council majorities + 2 elected Mayors, won new MP, hit 1,300 councillors and have 220,000 members. These losers should shut up and let him get on with it.

🟢 EXCL: Senior Green Party figures have urged Zack Polanski to consider stepping aside for Andy Burnham in the Makerfield by-election if the Greater Manchester mayor commits to introducing proportional representation Green councillors, activists and former party leaders have signed a joint statement warning that the party should approach the contest with “trepidation” The letter, whose signatories include Jonathan Bartley, who led the party between 2016 and 2018, and Rupert Read, a former Green councillor and author, says that Burnham’s election presents a “unique opportunity” to secure reform “In all reality this is not a seat Greens can win. It will be a straight fight between Labour and Reform. But it’s no ordinary by-election. Labour’s candidate, Andy Burnham, is looking to return to Westminster to lead in parliament.” “If Burnham will commit to backing proportional representation for the next general Labour election manifesto so that it is in place by the election after next, then on this unique occasion we don’t think Greens should run a full campaign against him,” the letter says Full read in @thetimes 👇 thetimes.com/article/16d6ba…

@YouChampoReds @LeftieStats Not only had millions of people heard of them, at one point 2 million people voted. It wasn't a lack of knowledge. Majority were voting tactically up to and including 2024.

@LeftieStats the greens were polling at around 2% in 2007 (when Lucas took over) and nobody had heard of them. you cant compare G+D to the position the greens were when Lucas took over
