🏆 It was one week ago that Wallace High School Senior Girls lifted the Scottish Cup for the third successive year following a 4-1 victory over Braidhurst High at Hampden.
Reflecting on the remarkable achievement, head coach Rachel Whillans, Principal Teacher at Wallace High’s School of Sport, was full of pride and praise for his players.
She said: “It is hard to put into words the emotions right now but there is an overwhelming sense of pride – pride in my players and coaching team and also our wider school community. Wallace High School is a family, a special place with a unique sense of belonging, and that was evident at Hampden.
“The players were magnificent in the match but that was no surprise to me, as they have been magnificent all year and for the last three years. Their conduct on and off the pitch makes me so proud.
“A special well done to scorers Gia Johal and hat-trick hero Mia Mitchell – what a performance from our youngest player who deservedly took home the match ball.
“The game was another incredible display of girls’ school football: two good teams battling it out for the ultimate prize on the national stage. Credit to Braidhurst and their staff for an excellent performance and thank you to the match organisers and officials for a night both teams will never forget.”
For the S6 players in the squad, it was a fitting finale, with the next generation of talent at Wallace now tasked with continuing the school’s silverware success.
Rachel said: “What a fitting way to end an incredible journey for our departing S6 girls: Rebecca, Lucy, Lauren, Beth and Eva, you have built and left a legacy at Wallace and now it hands over to the younger players to lead the charge.”
The head coach also took the opportunity to pay tribute to former Scotland striker Jimmy Bone, who passed away last year. Jimmy was a coach at Wallace High’s School of Football for almost 13 years and was a huge inspiration to a generation of young people in the local community.
Rachel said: “Finally, a mention to our former colleague Jimmy Bone, who I am sure was helping the team and guiding us to win. That one's for you Jimmy!”
Everyone at Stirling Council congratulates all the players, head coach Rachel Whillans and the rest of the coaching staff, as well as the school community at Wallace High for their latest success and remarkable achievements in recent years.
