Did you know that the common snapping turtle is the largest turtle in West Virginia? These turtles are semi-aquatic and have very powerful jaws. They are omnivores and mostly consume fish, small amphibians, insects and plants.

The Cheat Mountain Salamander is found only in West Virginia in high elevation forests that contain red spruce. This species is federally listed as threatened due to habitat loss and degradation. These salamanders do not have lungs and they breathe oxygen through their skin.
