Back in 1964, Governor Terry Sanford created the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. The Order is the highest award given by the Governor of North Carolina to individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to our state. It was formally codified in state law that only the Governor of North Carolina may confer it. Yet there's nothing that forbids other ambitious politicians from inventing their own awards based on... well, anything they want. Last year, both North Carolina State Auditor Dave Boliek and Labor Commissioner Luke Farley invented new "awards" for their respective offices to give out. Neither had ever existed before. Boliek invented the "Cardinal Award," and Farley invented the "Order of the Tar Heel," which he gave to Rep. Virginia Foxx, for some reason. Back in 2022, former State Treasurer Dale Folwell created an award he called "Order of the Keeper of the Public Purse," which he gave exactly once, to former State Rep. Allen McNeil. Is this a good use of their time?

What the Artemis II astronauts did over the last 10 days was a testament to their bravery. And the fact that they traveled farther from Earth than anyone ever has, re-entered our atmosphere at more than 24,000 mph, and splashed down safely was a testament to human ingenuity. Thanks to everyone at @NASA for making this mission possible, and for taking us along for the ride.

An underappreciated dividing line in North Carolina's politics (and maybe in America as a whole) are between those who think our best days are still ahead of us, and believe in an optimistic, positive vision for the future Versus: Those who believe things were better Back Then, and want a smaller, more insular and fearful vision We know what side we're on. 🤝

After Hurricane Helene devastated western NC, organizations like Baptists on Mission were among the first on the ground helping repair and rebuild. Earlier this week, Baptists on Mission dedicated its first full Helene rebuild, thanks to funding from the General Assembly. These programs work, and that’s why I’ve included an additional $20 million in my third Helene Budget Request to partner with more nonprofit organizations to build more homes in WNC.

If @virginiafoxx won’t say it, I will. Prices are rising and hurting everyday Americans because of Trump’s actions in Iran. I’m calling on Republicans in Washington to hold Trump accountable so we can take care of our folks here at home.
