Memorial Day: Remember our fallen heroes and the sacrifices they made with pride today. We honor them here at the Capitol with War Memorials that can be visited by the public at any time.

In a stunning move against transparency, Gov. Bob Ferguson is directing state agencies to withhold key information from the public and media, according to public records requests. This aggressive clamping down of information adds to the disturbing pattern of far left leaders in our state working to keep the public in the dark.
In 2023, when Ferguson was Attorney General, he championed HB 1333 which would criminalize free speech and independent under the guise of "domestic violence." Fortunately, outrage from the public and Legislative Republicans defeated that horrible bill.
In 2025, Legislative Democrats voted to shut the public out of the budget process. The results of that budget included the largest tax increases in state history, $782 MILLION being cut out of Medicaid, and a spending spree (SB 5167).
In 2026, multiple journalists are being denied their press passes in our state capitol, while budget battles including the Income Tax are raging.
The public has the right to know how well their state government is performing. We need more transparency in government, not less.

In 2024, WA was in national news for directing $340 MILLION in COVID payments to non-citizens. It was authorized by Legislative Democrats, former Gov. Jay Inslee, and the Biden Administration.
WA families and individuals could have used that relief. #tbt #waleg

Can you afford a 30% utility rate increase?
Puget Sound Energy (PSE) is proposing major utility hikes: 30% on electricity and 20% on natural gas over the next three years. The biggest driver? Compliance costs tied to our state's Climate Commitment Act (SB 5126 in 2021, enacted 2023) from WA Democrats according to The Center Square.
These sharp increases need approval from the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission, which is appointed by the Governor. Energy bills have already jumped 12% this year alone.
Many WA families and individuals cannot afford this. It’s time for policies that lower the cost of energy, instead of ones that constantly raise prices.

NEW WA GAS PRICE RECORD: According to AAA, the price for a gallon of gas is $5.79 in WA, a full $1.26 over the national average. Energy policies, including the Climate Commitment Act (CCA) from the far left, are responsible for roughly $1.45 of state taxes per gallon (SB 5126 in 2021, enacted 2023).
The same energy policies are hiking utility bills and spiking grocery prices too. One major example: Puget Sound Energy is requesting 30% cumulative utility rate hikes on electricity (and a 20% hike on gas) from Governor Bob Ferguson's Utility and Transportation Commission, on top of the 12% hike earlier this year, to comply with the CCA.
We need energy policies, that lower, not raise the high cost of living in Washington State.

Gas prices are skyrocketing. In Washington, we're extra special because Democrat policies like the "Climate Commitment Act" make it far worse for us. AAA reports today's national average for gas is $4.57 a gallon. In Washington -- more than $6 per gallon in some places. (Photo taken today in Graham.) ow.ly/6jkL50YUG69

WHERE’S THE FUNDS?! $1.17 BILLION MISSING:
As the far left, special interests, and many WA Democrats push for broad-based income tax on EVERYONE (SB 6346), former Gov. Inslee's administration, through various state agencies, is still missing or not adequately accounting for $1,170,000,000.00 in Federal Covid Relief Aid -taxpayer funds. This is according to the State Auditor's Office (D). #tbt
Struggling WA families, individuals, and small businesses needed those funds.
We have repeatedly advocated for fighting against fraud, waste, and abuse (SB 5810).

Public records confirm the "Millionaire's Tax," branded by the far left and special interests, is really meant to be an Income Tax on everyone (SB 6346) according to The Center Square. The same documents confirm that WA AG Nick Brown (D) and the WA Senate Democrat Leader have been working together to bypass our state constitution to ram this tax through.
This development comes after decades of tax increases, including the largest tax increase in state history was signed into law by Gov. Bob Ferguson this year (SB 5998 & SB 6346), and the second largest tax increase in state history was passed last year (SB 5167).
These taxes not only included an Income Tax, but also the largest property tax and rent increase in state history (HB 2049), a massive expansion of the sales tax (SB 5814), the death tax, 38%-50% fee increases on fishing licenses, hunting licenses, and the Discover Pass, and so much more. On top of all of that, the far left majority cut $782 MILLION out of Medicaid, cut child care, and cut funding for domestic violence support.
It didn't have to be this way! The Senate Republican Budget had no new taxes, no tax increases, and no service cuts (SB 5810). Our budget focused on eliminating fraud, waste, and abuse.
And about fraud, waste, and abuse...Remember the squandered $15 BILLION surplus, the missing $1.17 BILLION in COVID money, $646 MILLION stolen from unemployment, $340 MILLION going to non-citizens, and so much more.
It's well past time for state government to stop treating WA families and individuals as tax farms. We need policies that lower, not increase, the high cost of living in our state.
