WKU juniors Cole Meador and Alejandro Ramirez have been named Goldwater Scholars in the 2026 competition. They are two of five students at Kentucky universities to earn the most prestigious undergraduate award in the United States in the fields of science, engineering, and math. The Barry Goldwater Scholarship, established by the U.S. Congress in 1986, identifies and honors second- and third-year university students who excel in science, engineering, and math disciplines and who show great promise in becoming future research leaders in their field. Emma Childress, a second-year first-generation college student studying English and Environmental, Sustainability, and Geographic Studies, has been selected for the Fulbright UK Summer Institutes, one of the most renowned and selective summer scholarship programs operating worldwide. Each year, the US-UK Fulbright Commission supports up to 50 first- and second-year undergraduates from across the United States to undertake a demanding academic and cultural summer program at leading institutions in the UK. From learning concepts to presenting research, her experience has been transformative. A junior studying psychology with a forensic concentration, Kendall Al-Halah has turned curiosity into hands-on opportunities. From conducting research to presenting findings at local and international conferences, her work explores causes of criminal behavior, and how psychology is applied in the criminal justice and legal systems. Beyond academics, Al-Halah leads multiple student organizations, serves as a CEBS Ambassador, and is actively involved in her sorority, Alpha Xi Delta. These experiences have allowed her to build meaningful connections, develop leadership skills, and give back to the WKU community. Dr. Amy Brausch, Professor in the Department of Psychological Sciences at WKU, has been named one of 11 recipients of the prestigious Conference USA Faculty Achievement Award. The Conference USA Faculty Achievement Awards recognized outstanding faculty members for excellence in teaching, commitment to research and scholarship and service to their campus and community. A licensed clinical psychologist and scholar with the LifeSkills Center for Child Welfare Education and Research, Dr. Brausch is nationally recognized for her work in suicide prevention and youth mental health. Congratulations to this month’s Christopher Ware Staff Star Award recipients - Beth Gafford, Cindy Smith, and Sherry West!  Each month, WKU Staff Senate honors staff members from across WKU with the Christopher Ware Staff Star Award. Established in memory of the late Christopher Ware Sr. and his outstanding contributions to WKU after his unexpected passing in December 2020, this award seeks to honor staff members who make a positive impact on WKU. Four WKU students and two designated alternates have been offered 2026 Critical Language Scholarships. The Critical Language Scholarship Program (CLS), a program of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, is an intensive overseas language and cultural immersion program for American undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at U.S. colleges and universities.
