Once we drove down the mountain and were on the way home, we spotted this. The Philippines is over 80% Roman Catholic, and sometimes they venerate Mary as "higher" than Jesus.

A lot of Filipino Protestant country churches are just like this. Humble and not nearly as large as the Catholic churches, but dedicated to serving Jesus.

Overflow crowd at the "Women Serving Christ Negros District Fellowship" in Canlaon City, where the missus was a participant. Pretty far off the beaten path for me, to say the least. Pretty sure I was the only Anglo within a good distance of here.

In Canlaon City, Negros Oriental. Note "hand of God" visible on the south side of Mt. Kanlaon caused by a volcanic emission.

Spent the day at a woman's Baptist conference in a tropical rainforest at the foot of an active volcano. Sang "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms" which in addition to the above provided some extra cognitive dissonance.

"Where do we find the measure of our “Christian faith and life”? Quite simply, within the bounds of “the canonical books of the Old and New Testaments,” according to the Fundamental Declarations (of the #ACNA). substack.com/inbox/post/196…

My thought exactly. You don't even have to google very hard to find internships with those requirements. That's why some students are (rightly) anxious about GPA, and it's a big part of the reason why grade inflation exists. x.com/MattyBoySwag14…

@holysmoke You can roll your eyes as much as you like, but it's objectively more aesthetically pleasing than the fiberglass baroque, pre-fab baldacchino idolatry with its sentimental, "doll-like" features made for the simple-minded to appeal to the churrigueresque sensibilities of peasants.
