UCLA top player Wil Gasparino trucked a 3B for Oregon during a rundown…Gasparino gets called for “malicious contact”. He’s ejected AND he’ll miss the first 1.5 games of post-season play. Jarred Kelenic…truth be told, I wanted the Tigers to take him instead of Casey Mize in the ‘18 draft. This is silly…but I saw him stand in the outfield once at a tournament and the buzz was he’s a future pro. So I went to his field between my games. I didn’t see him bat and nothing was hit to him that I recall. Then I had a game starting and left. But I was a Kelenic-guy from there. Didn’t work out.

@william_jaber @IffyTheDopester The idea is to get other clubs interested who might be reluctant to add payroll and hopefully drive the price up for Skubal. Might not work…but that’s what I’d pursue.

Skubal has to show he’s healthy and the Tigers need to show they aren’t going to rally from this dead zone. But if those two things happen … …and the Tigers do trade Skubal….they should look to pay a solid chunk (not saying all of it) of what’s left on his deal this year to draw in clubs who might be reluctant to add payroll. The Tigers have his salary budgeted anyhow. Spend it to get a better return of talent. The guys they get for Skubal will almost certainly be guys who haven’t debuted yet…they’ll be dirt cheap for a long time. The Skubal money will even out more or less over time. The Tigers also should probably go the CC Sabathia-to-Milwaukee path and trade Skubal as soon as they can to give the acquiring club more time with Skubal. I think CC was dealt on June 23 that year.

@Sweetheartsour1 Yes. Bond Falls is great. We’ll be there in July…one of our friends joining us has never been to the U.P. so we’ll be having a day at Bond Falls, Agate Falls, and Lake of the Clouds to show her around.

Unfortunate part of dealing Skubal and Mize in the last year of their deals prior to free agency is neither will then be eligible for a qualifying offer from the club getting them from Detroit. So there is no Comp pick available If the draft pick was looming for the next club, Detroit’s market would be a lot better.

Is it a big deal? No. But it does seem curious to see Seabold get the axe instead of a couple others in the bullpen. Seabold’s stuff at least appeared to have a chance.

@BrianJYoung1 Catchers get moved if they hit enough. If Dingler’s bat keeps progressing you’re moving him to a position where he plays 150 games instead of 125. It all depends on if Salas pans out….he might be just as good of a defender. Ya never know.

I’d target the Brew Crew for a Skubal trade. If they’ll add the payroll to get an Ace. Luis Pena, Luis Lara and Andrew Fischer…any two of those three and make the deal happen. I’m assuming Jesus Made can’t be had… Dodgers have 5 minor league outfielders who look pretty good. Any two of them and a pitcher. Call it good. San Diego….Padres never afraid to deal. Ethan Salas and Kash Mayfield. Sure. Move Dingler to 1B or RF. Yankees….Dax Kilby and a few of their pitchers? Not as enticing but you don’t know what Detroit likes.. I’m assuming Lombard isn’t in the deal. I’ve seen Toronto mentioned. Their system doesn’t WOW me.
