🚨JUST IN: Pep Guardiola reveals what Mikel Arteta did after Arsenal’s Carabao Cup defeat, calls it ‘incredible’ Pep Guardiola got the better of Mikel Arteta as Manchester City beat Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final. After losing 2-0 to Manchester City, Arsenal had to walk up the Wembley stairs first to collect their Carabao Cup runners-up medals. Once they came down, Pep Guardiola led his side up the stairs to collect their medals and, of course, the Carabao Cup. Manchester City celebrated winning the cup for the fifth time in the last 10 years on the balcony and then came down to do the same on the pitch. Mikel Arteta, his coaching staff, and the Arsenal players could’ve just gone back in as soon as they got their medals, but they stayed until City lifted the cup and came down. The Manchester City boss noticed that, and he hailed and thanked Arteta for the gesture. He told CBS Sports: “It’s against which team we won. This is the strongest one in Europe right now. Look at the Champions League and Premier League. To beat them in many aspects, it looks so difficult. “They have proven it for many years, especially this season. Of course, Carabao Cup, five in 10 years, we’re happy, but especially against them (Arsenal). “I have a huge respect. I want to say thank you because they waited, all the team, until we were down. That was an incredible gesture on the part of Mikel and their people.” Via [@afcnewsroom]

🚨📰 Four Arsenal players were absent from training ahead of the crucial Champions League clash with Atlético Madrid. Arsenal are preparing for the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Atlético Madrid, with several key players absent from training ahead of the match. Martin Ødegaard, Kai Havertz, Mikel Merino and Jurrien Timber were all absent from Arsenal’s first-team training session on Monday morning ahead of their Champions League clash with Atlético Madrid. The quartet were among the most notable absentees from the session, strongly indicating they are set to be unavailable for tomorrow night’s match in north London. The Gunners head into the match on the back of a commanding 3-0 win over Fulham at the weekend, with Ødegaard, Havertz, Merino and Timber all absent for the victory over the Cottagers. Arteta is set to face the press later today, where he’s expected to provide a fresh injury update on the players who missed the weekend’s match and recent training sessions. Via [mirrorfootball] Gooners, do you think their absence will be felt against Atlético Madrid, despite not being noticed against Fulham?

🚨 INJURY UPDATE: Arsenal are expected to face Atlético Madrid without Martin Ødegaard, Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber, and Mikel Merino, as all four missed today’s final open training session. That said, their absence doesn’t confirm they’ll miss the match—players are sometimes kept out of training as a precaution to maximize recovery before kickoff. The positive news is Bukayo Saka was involved in training, easing concerns after his recent substitution.

🚨 Jamie Carragher on Liverpool FC this season: 🗣️ “If the other teams are serious, Liverpool have absolutely no business sitting in 4th—none. That’s the reality. For a club of this size, with this quality, it’s not just disappointing… it’s unacceptable. They’ve been sloppy, inconsistent, and miles off the standards required. One week they look good, the next week they fall apart—there’s no control, no authority. You don’t win titles like that. The top teams set the level every single week—Liverpool haven’t even come close. Too many passengers, not enough leaders stepping up when it matters. And at this level, that will always get exposed. If they think this is good enough, they’re kidding themselves. Because right now… they’re nowhere near where they should be.”

🚨📰 Forget Declan Rice, Arsenal’s understated £27m signing has been their standout player of the season. For months, the narrative has been that Declan Rice is among the frontrunners for Player of the Season. He’s being tipped alongside Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva as one of the frontrunners for the top individual honour at the end-of-season awards. However, while Rice has been exceptional, Arsenal have another standout performer who has delivered consistently with minimal noise but maximum quality. And that man, is William Saliba. Saliba has been the quiet foundation behind Arsenal’s success this season. While Gabriel tends to attract headlines with goals and big moments, Saliba has provided a consistently calm and composed presence in defence. Saliba has made 46 appearances for Arsenal this season, helping the team keep 23 clean sheets. Remarkably, he has been dribbled past just six times all season, the lowest in the league. In terms of passing, a key metric in any Mikel Arteta side, Saliba boasts an average passing accuracy of over 92% across both the Premier League and Europe. Put simply, he is a defender operating at a level comparable to Virgil van Dijk in his prime. And at this point, he deserves to be in the conversation for the best player this season. 🚨📰 Arsenal are optimistic about agreeing a new improved deal with Jurrien Timber before the World Cup, a development that could trigger a significant departure. Negotiations have been ongoing since before Christmas and have remained steady in recent months Talks are moving in a positive direction, with the Dutch international expected to receive a significant pay increase as part of the agreement. Sources suggest Arsenal rate Timber extremely highly, with insiders believing he has become one of—if not the—best right-backs in world football over the last two years. Timber currently has two years left on his contract, but Arsenal are eager to secure his long-term future ahead of time. Arsenal are now open to allowing England international Ben White to depart this summer, with Everton the latest club reportedly expressing interest in his services. White has accepted his role as second choice this season, and beyond this campaign he is open to exploring opportunities elsewhere. Via [teamtalk] Gooners, how long of a contract extension do you think Arsenal should offer Jurrien Timber?

🚨 Steven Gerrard on Virgil van Dijk & Ibrahima Konaté this season: 🗣️ “If you compare them to last season, it’s just not been good enough. You’re talking about two top defenders who used to give Liverpool control, authority, confidence. Now? That solidity isn’t there. They look unsure at times, the communication isn’t right, and teams are finding it too easy to get at them. Last season, you never felt like they’d get exposed—this season, every attack looks dangerous. That’s the difference. At Liverpool FC, defending is about pride, about standards. Right now, they’re not meeting that level. They have the quality, no doubt—but they need to get back to being dominant, aggressive, and organised. Because at this level, if you lose that edge… you get punished.”
