Neutrals are labelling this a real power play by Sunderland Association football club, with a spokesman from the Hordes Of Withdrawn Entries On Unsold Tickets (H.O.W.E.O.U.T) society quoted as saying “Airport”

I’m glad to finally see justice being done and the Sycamore Gap perpetrators jailed today. We know no sentence could ever reflect the devastation we all still feel for the loss of our beloved Sycamore Gap tree. It was more than just part of the landscape, it had a place in so many people's hearts. It was where couples got engaged, families scattered their loved ones' ashes and a cherished family picnic spot from where generations will have photos and memories. For nearly 200 years it stood proudly next to Hadrian’s Wall in Northumberland, but just one night of stupidity robbed our region of one of its key landmarks. I hope during their 4 year sentence the pair realise the seriousness of their actions and the impact they’ve had on people in the North East and across the country – it meant so much to so many. I want to say a massive thank you on behalf of local people to the @northumbriapol investigators who worked tirelessly on this complex case to make sure justice has been served.
