We see our home planet as a whole, lit up in spectacular blues and browns. A green aurora even lights up the atmosphere. That's us, together, watching as our astronauts make their journey to the Moon.

Remember when we learned that our wealthiest and most powerful people were connected to a guy who ran a literal child sex trafficking ring? And then that guy died mysteriously in a jail? And now we just don't talk about it.

Student loans are a barrier to growth, having a family & making sufficient pension contributions. The interest rates are so extortionate that most will never pay them back, interest must be removed. Further, if we don’t give people the ability to invest in their personal pension today, we will be looking after them in their old age as they have no pension & no kids. It’s short sighted beyond belief.

Successive UK govts have created a student loan system which *actively* embeds unfairness and inequality between and within generations. Finally, (some) politicians are waking up to it. It needs complete and urgent reform. Special News Agents report youtube.com/watch?v=DwRqHN…

On a Plan 2 Student loan? Why freezing the repayment threshold from 2027 to 2030 is, in my view, a breach of natural justice. A brief audio explainer

It is extremely immoral for Rachel Reeves to effectively raise tax on people aged 21-31. I was under the impression my student loan was to pay for my education, not to fund the NHS. Why is it OK to change the terms of the loan after it was signed? theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

If you have a plan 2 student loan, pay income tax, and national insurance these are your marginal tax rates. After £28k -> 41%, After £50k -> 51%, After £100k -> 71%, That is not including the loss of child related benefits. What incentive is there to work more?

£99987 and counting: graduates trapped by ballooning student loans. Govt froze repayment threshold. By 2030, likely to be at minimum wage. At the margin graduates pay 20% income tax + 8%NIC +9% repayment. Insane. Loan keeps increasing, if not repaid. theguardian.com/money/2026/feb…

Also, why does nobody ever do the maths and realise this adds up to over £100k paid back, why are we paying back £108k on a £27k loan? The government are loan sharks

Particularly enjoyed the 'well how did you guys pay for it' section, when challenged on how to fund education by a panel of people who didn't have to pay for their own. The pearl clutching around how tuition could possibly be paid for by a political establishment who all had theirs state funded will never cease to amaze me. Tuition fees and the extortionate costs dumped on our generation should be a national scandal - if it had happened to any other generation, it would be.
Oli Dugmore@OliDugmore

The combined tuition fees of the entire Question Time panel would not cover my cost for 1 year of uni. Is that fair?

It’s outrageous that hardworking graduates from modest backgrounds can end up paying more than wealthier peers for the same education. Rising interest and income-based repayments trap them in debt, while those who could afford tuition upfront face none of this burden

Lady in blue, "Will student loans be the next misselling scandal?" #BBCQT Oli Dugmore, "My three year course, £9,000 a year for the tuition, on top of that a maintenance loan, I left uni with £37,500 of debt" "From the day I was charged RPI interest" "Since I went to uni in 2012, the amount of interest I have accrued is £32,000" "Was it missold to me when I was told it would cost me £9,000 a year? Yes" "On top of that its a regressive system" "If you're wealthy enough to pay the fees up front, you don't get charged interest - if you're rich enough you don't pay the same as me" "The government changed the terms of the agreement, I call that loan sharking" Fiona Bruce, "How else would you pay for university?"
