Dans le système de travail « jodi », les couples sont surendettés et TRAVAILLENT jusqu’à 14 HEURES PAR JOUR, sans congés ni protections, poussant certaines femmes à voir cette opération comme une solution pour continuer à travailler. Malgré des enquêtes menées en 2019 révélant plus de 13 000 HYSTÉRECTOMIES dans le district de Beed et des promesses de réformes, les militants dénoncent un manque de changements concrets. Les conditions de travail extrêmes, le MANQUE D’HYGIÈNE et la pression de certains médecins FAVORISENT ces opérations. Les autorités locales, sous pression médiatique, ont lancé de nouvelles enquêtes et PROMETTENT DES MESURES, mais les activistes estiment que le système reste inchangé. (The Guardian)

If I am to google what carbonara is while reading a book, they should google akara. Idk why we have to hand hold anybody in fiction.

This is hilarious. But I also understand the writer who chooses to substitute akara with bean cake. How many people outside Nigeria actually know what akara is? If you are writing for an international audience, it makes perfect sense to use vocabulary that will be readily understood by the people you are trying to reach.

I watched this with similar concerns - the normalisation of the selling girls to be raped and the positioning of it as a tragedy for the father, not a crime against the child, in a society where men have all the political rights and girls are banned from education.

Why doesn’t this BBC story examine why there’s a market for fathers selling their young daughters to other men in the first place? What a strange omission - it’s like the reality that these girls are being sold as child brides to be raped by adult men is invisible or something.
