Eastern China and Korea as hair: strands follow the real wind at 5.5 km; color is ground temperature. Heat pools on the North China Plain while the seas hold the coasts cool. Concept: u/thejeran · Data: ERA5 #dataviz #China

What if you could see the wind? Here it is: ten days of June 2026, combed across Europe like fur. Every strand is a real 500 hPa air current, every color the difference from a normal June . Built with forge3d in Python

Half of Iberia stands higher than 622 metres — and it isn't the mountains doing it. Every pixel of Spain and Portugal, sorted by its own elevation. The pile lands on the Meseta; only ~0.6% clears 2,000 m. #Spain #geography

How much of the sky is actually hazy with smoke or dust? A year of daily CAMS aerosol optical depth, draped on the unfolded globe. The hazy share of Earth's atmosphere swings from ~7M km2 on a clear stretch to ~44M at the worst of it. #climate #wildfire #dataviz

Can you find anywhere in Egypt that isn't the river? Fifty years of population, 1975 to 2025. Almost everyone lands on one thin ribbon of light. Everything dark is desert, and the lit part is about 5 percent of the country. #Egypt #dataviz #maps

Guess which stripe is biggest. Nearly half of Iberia is rangeland. Crops and trees are almost exactly tied. Only about 5% of it is built on. Every pixel is a 10 m patch of ground, on an equal-area grid, so stripe height IS that type's share of the peninsula. #dataviz #maps

Two of the dark bands on this map are world wars. The third one is now. France had 610,186 births in 2025, the fewest since 1942. As a rate, the second lowest in 165 years. Only 1916 was lower. #dataviz #France

The Ganges moves about 17 times more water in August than in February. Every river in the basin, one frame a day. Width is daily discharge, colour is water temperature. #dataviz #hydrology #India

A 100 million year old coastline still shows up in Alabama's election maps. Sea → chalk → soil → cotton → 1860 census → today's blue crescent. One line through all of it. #maps #history

Where does Mexico actually live? From the border down to Panama, the desert north stays flat, then one valley erupts. Mexico City: 23 million people in a single mountain basin. #dataviz #maps

Half of all CO2 since 1900 has been burned since 1995. Countries drawn like tree rings: dark = long ago, bright = recent. The US is nearly all dark core. China is a thin core in a wide bright rim. Who owns the carbon: who burns it now, or who burned it first? #dataviz #climate

Antarctic sea ice swings by more than 6x every year: 2.8M km² in March, 18.9M km² by September. An area bigger than Russia, frozen and gone within months. From NOAA/NSIDC satellite data. #Antarctic #ClimateData

@milos_gis @HyperFrames_ TBH Claude does the heavy lifting once the basic infra is in place. Def not a repo I’d be proud to share (complete mess) but it gets the job done

That's a bit complicated workflow. The difference is that forge3d does the data preparation, rendering and animation in a single GIS-focused pipeline. I don’t have to stitch together Python, Three.js and a capture tool, and the output is deterministic and follows cartographic principles.

@milos_gis I looked at using the same wgpu crate when chromium started feeling slow (it can be, and memory limits do bite) but kept chrome bc HTML and CSS support is such a win for agents… its too heavy for a browser, same general flow. Same end diff path

Same can be done with forge3d but it's not the primary goal for GIS professionals. If your goal is an interactive web app, Three.js is a great choice. forge3d is aimed at a broader GIS rendering pipeline where reproducible, high-quality cartographic output matters just as much as browser delivery.

@maxdotvue @milos_gis The raster math happens once in python then WebGPU handles the rendering during the video which is driven by GSAP and captured by hyperframes (stripped down headless chromium). It’s basically the same process except this is using chromes WebGPU engine instead of a rust crate

Where does the ocean actually turn green? A year of daily chlorophyll-a on the Spilhaus map — deep navy is clear water, bright green is a bloom. The dark cap sliding pole to pole isn't dead ocean, it's polar night. #dataviz #ocean #phytoplankton
