Children in Lebanon are exhausted. From fear. From displacement. From living through violence again and again. More than 770,000 children are now at risk of long-term mental health conditions because of the ongoing escalation. Its toll may leave lasting scars long after the violence ends. This cannot continue. Children must be protected. The ceasefire must hold. Learn more: uni.cf/4nrBGq5

In hard-to-reach areas like Tebnine, in South Lebanon, damaged hospitals continue to function while cut off from the rest of the country. Inside, hundreds of patients are being treated. Many are children. UNICEF teams are on the ground, delivering life-saving medical supplies, safe water, hygiene kits, and baby kits to support overwhelmed health facilities and families living in isolation. Humanitarian convoys are now critical to sustain people. But this is not enough. Hospitals must be protected. Children must be protected. Communities must be reached. A ceasefire is urgently needed. Now.

Absurd and inhuman violence is spreading ferociously through the sacred places of the Christian East, profaned by the blasphemy of war and the brutality of business, with no regard for people’s lives, which are considered at most collateral damage of self-interest. But no gain can be worth the life of the weakest, children, or families. No cause can justify the shedding of innocent blood.

A UNICEF-led convoy delivered life-saving supplies to hard-to-reach border areas in southern #Lebanon cut off by the ongoing war. Critical supplies reached vulnerable families in Qlaya’a, Borj el Moulouk, Deir Mimas, Jdeidet Marjaayoun, Ibl El Saqi, and Boueyda, marking the first UN convoy to access these specific areas, which continue to witness intense fighting. In highly constrained conditions, around 3,000 children received urgent access to safe water, hygiene items, and essential care. We remain committed to ensuring that #EveryChild, even in the hardest-to-reach areas, receives the support and protection they need

We mourn the passing of historian Walid Khalidi, Honorary President of IPS and one of its founders. We extend our condolences to his family and to the wider academic community that benefited from his life’s work. His scholarship leaves an enduring legacy and remains a foundational reference for anyone studying the Palestinian cause. palestine-studies.org/en/node/1658684

“Children in Lebanon cannot afford further delays. They need protection, safety and support” From inside a collective shelter in Lebanon that became a refuge for families forced to flee with almost nothing, UNICEF Representative @MarcoluigiC highlighted the urgent needs of displaced children and families. UNICEF has rapidly scaled up its emergency response, providing health care, psychosocial support, safe water and emergency assistance. However, as violence escalates and needs continue to grow, sustained support is critical to ensure children and families receive the life-saving assistance they urgently need.

Heart-breaking: Yanar Mohammed, the fearless Iraqi feminist and founder of the Organisation of Women’s Freedom in Iraq (OWFI), was murdered in Iraq yesterday. Yanar was a dear colleage and friend to so many of us in the women’s rights and feminist community, one of our icons. She spent her life standing up for women’s rights in the most dangerous environment. She spoke out against so-called honor killings, against senseless violence and killings by armed groups, against violence and aggression by States, all States. She faced constant threats but she never stopped. And today we cry and mourn her energy, her commitment, her profound humanity, her amazing courage. As we prepare to meet for the Commission on the Status of Women, at a time when so many States are intent on turning the clock on years of (imperfect) progresses on the protection of women’s rights, and non-discrimination; when too many powerful actors are attacking human rights, gender rights and feminism, Yanar will be guiding us. We will stand tall, we will be relentless in our pursuit of justice and equality, we will be strong and united in resisting the backsliding and increasing violence. We will be courageous. Rest in Power dear Yanar.

Sad to hear the crossing over of Leila Shahid, #Palestine Ambassador to France, a voice that represented the Palestinian cause in Europe for a long time.
