Now that GPT-5.6 Sol is out I moved my Hermes bots over to it and did an audit on both my bots. It found a ton of issues, including a ton of minor security flaws. I’m not sure if I should feel happy that it found them or upset that I had so many for so long 😭

You don't have to live in the command line, but you can't panic every time there's no GUI. Start with one command this week. pwd, ls, cat, grep, ping, dig, or ss. Not ten. One. Which one are you picking?

good troubleshooting is not knowing the magic fix. it is leaving enough evidence so the next person does not have to restart from zero.

The DNS definition is the least useful part of DNS troubleshooting. The better question: What does this answer prove right now? What is your first DNS check when something feels broken?

first IT job lesson: troubleshooting starts before the tool opens. Most users are not going to describe DNS, VPN, or Wi-Fi accurately. Your job is to turn "the internet is broken" into something you can test.

your phone can see better Wi-Fi and still refuse to use it. roaming is mostly a client decision. the AP can help, but the device still gets a vote. sometimes that device is dumb.

Typing google.com feels like one thing. It is not. Before a page loads: cache, DNS, ARP/NDP, routing, firewall policy/NAT, TCP or QUIC, TLS, HTTP, and usually a CDN all get involved. When users say “the internet is down,” where do you see this chain fail most often?

“The network is down” is not a diagnosis. It is the start of a translation problem. Who is affected? When did it start? What changed? Can we reproduce it? That is usually where I start.
