Every rainy season, Yaoundé held its breath. Floodwaters spread disease, disrupted lives and sometimes claimed them. Today, the story in Cameroon's capital is different. With US$32.3 million from the African Development Fund, 20km of asphalt-lined canals were built along the Mfoundi River. Health impacts are clear: diarrhoea cases dropped from 2.7% to 0.41%, and cholera-related diseases fell from 3.06% to 0.008%, demonstrating the project's concrete impact on public health. ➡️ bit.ly/4rQs3SN #WorldWaterDay

Africa's first utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) initiative is stepping in to keep the lights on. When energy demand peaks, the facility captures and stores surplus renewable energy. This groundbreaking infrastructure is stabilising the national grid, reducing curtailment, accelerating the deployment of clean energy across the continent, and attracting global expertise to the region. It is more than just a battery system; it is a critical foundation for a continent-wide shift towards more sustainable power generation.
