Every rainy season, Yaoundé held its breath. Floodwaters spread disease, disrupted lives and sometimes claimed them. Today, the story in Cameroon's capital is different. With US$32.3 million from the African Development Fund, 20km of asphalt-lined canals were built along the Mfoundi River.
