As we recognize Public Service Recognition Week, I want to take a moment to thank the nearly 6,000 staff serving at the California Department of Justice. Each and every day, our team works tirelessly to strengthen public safety, protect civil rights, and ensure justice and accountability throughout our state. I am so proud of all you do to advance justice and serve 39 million Californians.

California isn't going to sit back and watch while the federal government and oil industry override critical protections. We will continue to fight back.

We’re filing a motion for a preliminary injunction in an effort to block the Trump Administration from unlawfully greenlighting the restart of two CA onshore oil pipelines that are subject to State regulation and oversight. Unfortunately, California has seen first-hand the devastating environmental and public health impacts of coastal oil spills, yet the Trump Administration will stop at nothing to evade state regulation, which protects against these very disasters.

Telehealth has made it easier for women — especially in rural, low-income, and underserved communities — to access mifepristone and obtain reproductive health care.  We urged SCOTUS to intervene and halt a recent appellate decision that would restrict access to mifepristone, and we welcome that it has temporarily done so.

More states have joined us in our challenge of the Nexstar/Tegna merger, now making this lawsuit a bipartisan effort. Our Fentanyl Enforcement Program takes down major trafficking rings and stops the flow of fentanyl into our streets.   Since April 2022, The Fentanyl Enforcement Program has seized more than 17 million fentanyl pills, enough fentanyl powder to make 32 million additional pills, and made more than 600 fentanyl related arrests. We won’t stop until the deaths from fentanyl do. #FentanylAwarenessDay

I’m co-leading a bipartisan coalition of 25 attorneys general and @nycgov in sending letters to nine major credit card and payment processing companies urging them to take stronger action to prevent the unlawful sale of tobacco and nicotine products both online and at brick-and-mortar stores. Illegal e-cigarette sales remain widespread, posing a serious public health concern and requiring a more robust response. At the @CalSheriff’s Annual Convention discussing our shared priorities of advancing public safety and protecting our communities.   Together, we’ve dismantled organized retail crime rings, taken down fentanyl dealers, shut down human trafficking operations, and so much more.   I continue to be inspired by what’s possible when law enforcement agencies work together to build trust and bring results.

When someone entrusted with maintaining fairness in a card room instead stacks the decks for themselves, they must be held accountable. This case is an excellent example of good investigative work and a timely arrest.
