I appreciated the briefing by the #ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management @AHACentre on their valuable humanitarian work in #Myanmar. Last month, the Philippines joined the Center in a symbolic handover of prefabricated school buildings for Mandalay, Sagaing, Southern Shan State and Nay Pyi Taw to support communities affected by Tropical Cyclone Mocha in 2023 and the magnitude 7.7 earthquake in 2025.

This partnership marks an important step toward developing regional insurance solutions and pre-arranged financing mechanisms that can support rapid humanitarian response to disasters across ASEAN Member States. By linking disaster data, financial instruments, and operational response systems, the collaboration aims to enhance preparedness and strengthen regional resilience. This cooperation reflects ASEAN’s continued commitment to advancing innovative solutions that bridge disaster response and financial resilience for communities across the region.

The AHA Centre is pleased to announce the launch of the Strengthening Institutional Capacity of #ASEAN in Disaster Management (SICAP) Phase II project, supported by the Government of New Zealand through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT). Building on the achievements of SICAP Phase I, the five-year initiative (2026–2030) will further strengthen ASEAN’s #disaster #management capacity by operationalising the ASEAN Disaster Management Training Network (Train-Net), expanding regional knowledge exchange, and enhancing the AHA Centre’s role as a regional knowledge hub. Through these efforts, SICAP Phase II contributes to ASEAN’s vision of becoming a global leader in disaster management. #1asean1response

In the spirit of #InternationalWomensDay, the AHA Centre spoke with #ASEAN women who are helping shape disaster management in the region. Su Ei Nandar, Program Manager for Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience at Plan International Myanmar, was inspired by the courage of communities after Cyclone Nargis in 2008. That moment set her on a 12-year career supporting communities affected by disasters. From managing emergency responses in Myanmar to earning her ASEAN Standards and Certification for Experts in Disaster Management #ASCEND certification, Su Ei's journey shows how women can lead and contribute to a more inclusive approach to disaster management. Meet Nadya Devina Zharfan – Disaster Management Analyst at BNPB Indonesia and Member of the ASEAN Emergency Response and Assessment Team. As a relatively new member, Nadya shares how joining the #ASEANERAT became a foundation for her understanding of regional disaster response. From learning the full flow of operations during the 16th Induction Course, honing her skills at the Refresher Course, to applying her knowledge during the ASEAN Regional Disaster and Emergency Response Exercise 2025 (ARDEX‑25), every step has strengthened her readiness for real deployment. Nadya’s experience, made possible with the support of the Government of Japan through the #JapanASEANIntegrationFund #JAIF, shows the importance of continuous learning, adaptation, and repeated exposure to ASEAN disaster response mechanisms to shape confident and capable responders.
