“We are hoping that we will soon hear from the UK government, responding to calls from universities to make sure that their students arrive on time.” According to the United Nations, more than 90,000 university students in Gaza have had their education disrupted since October 2023. This has forced those who can flee to study abroad.

Ghada Ashour was forced to leave Gaza to pursue her education and is now a Master’s student at Dublin City University after securing a scholarship. Since October 2023, all universities and colleges in Gaza have been destroyed, according to the United Nations.

Studying in international universities is the only option for many Palestinians in Gaza who dream about a higher education after the destruction of their universities. But securing a spot via scholarship programs is not enough: most students are trapped and facing severe bureaucratic delays by Israeli authorities for evacuation.
