Think this comment upset a large contingent without context. He was answering a question about the rematch with Canada and the rivalry they’ve had over the years. Pretty clearly saying there’s hatred between the teams. Let’s not forget his Mother is Canadian and he’s the captain of Canada’s capital, where he agreed to a seven-year contract extension.
