Politico reports: In a long-awaited draft bill that is not yet introduced, [House Agriculture Chairman G.T. Thompson] outlines an expansion of the H-2A farm labor program that aligns with the priorities of growers grappling with nationwide labor shortages. Notably, the draft legislation would allow any contract under 350 days to qualify as “temporary” regardless of whether the underlying job is year-round, meaning operations like dairy farms would qualify for H-2A workers, a longtime industry demand. The bill aims to ensure “farmers have access to a legal and reliable workforce,” a House Ag aide, granted anonymity to discuss the legislation that has not been made public, said in a statement. "Immigration is a pocketbook issue," says Adam Lampert, CEO at Cambridge Caregivers, who joined w/ @ABICaction last month to speak with lawmakers about the economic costs of current immigration policies. Higher wages don't typically attract more Americans to these caregiver jobs.

A new federal immigration policy could force thousands of immigrants to leave the U.S. and apply for green cards from their home countries, even if they’re already living, working, and building families here. Under the new guidance from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, immigrants already in the U.S. will only be allowed to complete the green card process here in “extraordinary circumstances.” Everyone else may be required to leave the country and apply through a U.S. consulate abroad. That’s a massive shift. In 2024 alone, more than 800,000 people adjusted their status to permanent residency while already living in the United States. Immigration attorneys warn this change could create chaos, separate families, and make the path to legal status far harder, especially for spouses of U.S. citizens. More and more DACA recipients (who were originally brought to the U.S. as children) are losing their work permits and protections due to renewal processing delays, even after doing everything right and on time. The risk extends to detention and deportation as well: between January and November of last year, at least 261 DACA recipients were arrested by ICE and 86 were removed from the country for failing to have legal status, despite President Trump saying after the 2024 election that he does support Dreamers being able to stay in the country. 1 in 3 long-term care workers is an immigrant. Seniors know best how integral TPS recipients and Dreamers are to our workforce, and a group from GoodwinLiving rallied in DC in support of caregivers. We need work permits for our long-term immigrant workers and TPS must be extended

The Latino vote is up for grabs, and both parties should be paying attention, Axios reports. After swinging 22 points toward Republicans in 2024, Latino voters are pulling back fast: → 66% approval among Latinos who voted for Trump, down from 93% early in his term → 78% say his policies have been harmful to Hispanics → 52% in swing districts say they're still undecided ahead of the midterms Strategists are calling it "dealignment," meaning Latino voters are becoming less loyal to either party, and whoever speaks to their concerns wins. All parties hoping to make inroads with Latino voters need to prioritize the economy, work permits for long-term immigrants and citizenship for Dreamers. Read more: axios.com/2026/05/20/tru…

.@TXRestaurants, a lead partner in the "Seat the Table" campaign, released its 2026 first-quarter report revealing the mounting pressure on the state’s hospitality industry. As food and fuel costs climb, restaurant operators are struggling to stay afloat while facing a shrinking pool of available workers. "Immigration is difficult and has had an impact on the restaurant industry [and] the farming industry, which again, then raises prices along the way," says TRA Chief Marketing Officer Tony Abroscato. He notes that while food costs have surged 35% since the pandemic, a lack of available labor is creating a secondary crisis that makes those costs even harder to manage. More: seatthetable.org

Dreamers and their family trusted that DACA would protect them, not be used against them, said @SenatorDurbin. But a recent Board of Immigration Appeals decision paved the way for DACA holders to be issued removal orders, increasing their likelihood of detention and deportation.

"The attacks on #Dreamers, the delays in #DACA renewals, they aren't just processing backlog. They're [ICE] purposely creating windows where people with protections are losing those protections," -Stephanie Villarreal whose husband, a scientist with DACA, sits in #ICE detention.

Annie Ramos has been in this country since she was an infant. She's an ASU student, a Dream scholar, and a military spouse. She was put in ICE detention only days after her wedding. There are thousands of people just like Annie being detained right now. This is their home. Our immigration system is broken and there is no reason we cannot fix it if we start working together on this.

The cruelty is the point. Dreamers and DACA recipients have lived here, married here, had kids here, and contributed here for years. I’ve spent 20+ years fighting for Dreamers. I will spend the rest of my time in the Senate continuing that fight.
