@Porkchop_EXP True story: Was having drinks with colleagues at Jigger n Pony most of em Singaporeans, am not. I said MY now has 3 worldclass skyscrapers, one being the 2nd tallest another 20th Their first reaction was “Yea but they don’t knw how to maintain it” was blown away by the hate 😂

I love it how this triggered the Singaporeans. I love Singapore, but it’s very obvious to me that their whole national raison d’être is to put Malaysia down. They are still majorly butthurt that they were supposedly kicked out of the union (when in reality they wanted to leave, as they should have) and they seem to have some kind of inferiority complex where they just have to constantly put Malaysia down. It’s very easy to believe their trash talk about Malaysia if you’ve never been to Kuala Lumpur (and we should compare large city to city only). Of course Malaysia isn’t as developed as Singapore, but it’s nowhere as bad as they like to paint it. The truth is Malaysia is one of the most powerful nationalities right up there with the Singaporean passport (see the list of the first world passports for the automatic passport scan gates in the EU) and Singaporeans just can’t deal. Won’t go into details here - Kuala Lumpur does fall short on some aspects as compared to Singapore - but the reality is that a middle class employee has a much better quality of life in KL than in Singapore (they can actually afford cars and condos) while a middle class Singaporean is stressed and rushed and packed into crowded public transport and tiny HDBs. Also Singapore isn’t as rich or truly developed first world country as they like to imagine it - there is a lot of hidden poverty and misery in Singapore (you see severely disabled people having to sell tissues to survive or the very elderly having to work), and how they treat their maids and laborers is as bad, if not worse, as in poor countries. At least middle class Malaysians can afford to put their maids in a room larger than a literal box, unlike Singaporeans.

If you’ve already been to Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, why not try Hokkaido next? I’ve been there more times than I can count since high school, and it’s probably the No.1 destination for Japanese travelers. Why? Because it has everything. Incredible seafood, amazing food overall, great beer, a lively city, beautiful nature, and hot springs. So this time, I’ll share some of my favorite food spots in Sapporo, Otaru, and Yoichi. MEDICINEMAN — A famous soup curry restaurant, and it’s seriously good. Highly rated by locals and sometimes featured on TV. For some reason, the broccoli in Hokkaido’s soup curry was incredible. Itadakimasu. — A jingisukan (grilled lamb) restaurant. There are many places, but this was the best I’ve ever had. You might have to wait if you don’t go at the right time. Umi Hachikyo Hon Ten — A local seafood izakaya. When you order ikura, they keep piling it on with loud cheers. Great food and an amazing atmosphere. I’ve been here multiple times. Menya Yukikaze Susukino Ten — A well-known ramen shop. The miso ramen is incredible. There are many great ramen spots in Hokkaido, so try a few. Kita no Gourmet Tei — Located next to Sapporo’s wholesale market. An amazing place for seafood bowls and fresh seafood. Beer and seafood here is just perfect. Parfait, Coffee, Sake, Sato — In Sapporo, ending your night with a parfait is a thing. After eating and drinking, finish with dessert. This place was outstanding. Ichiba Shokudo Ajidokoro Takeda — Located in Sankaku Market in Otaru (about 30 minutes from Sapporo). Incredible seafood bowls. Seafood and beer is always the best combo. Wakadori Jidai Naruto Hon Ten — Famous for fried half chicken. Crispy outside, juicy inside. One of the must-visit spots in Otaru. Kakizaki Shoten Seafood Kobo — A highly rated local seafood spot in Yoichi. I really liked it. By the way, Yoichi is also famous for whisky. About 1.5 hours from Sapporo by train. Which place would you try first? Let me know if you have any other recommendations.
