2/3 Meanwhile, AP has found plenty of resources to outsource video production jobs to India, away from video staff in the U.S. and elsewhere.

1/3 On May 15, Associated Press leadership cut 20 guild covered staff. Layoffs included U.S. news, photographers, investigations, business and sports across 12 states.

AP's Pulitzer Prize-winning investigation is the kind of work that executive editor Julie Pace says “highlights the unique strengths of AP’s global, multiformat newsroom.” But those strengths are being hacked away as management leaves U.S. staffers in the dark on impending layoffs. 2/3 Working in a newsroom, even remotely, is not like any other job. We didn’t just say goodbye to colleagues, but to decades long friends, confidants, storytelling partners, and role models who have shaped the way the world will understand its history for years to come.

1/3 Today, 40 Associated Press guild-covered employees across the U.S. who accepted buyouts left the newsroom for the final time. We’ve been told layoffs will be coming, with no clear timeline. In solidarity, our members in office, at home, and in the field wore their union red today.
