On April 6, 1896, James Brendan Connolly of #SouthBoston became the first medalist in the Modern @Olympics, held in Athens, Greece, winning the #TripleJump. He placed 2nd in the high jump and third in the long jump. Connolly later became a noted writer, publishing 26 novels + countless essays about sports, seafaring + his beloved Boston.
