In Cheltenham news, John Kiely (left) has the favourite in the Bumper. When working for him in 1988, I rode work with him once and on pulling up he said “I think you can do the cows tomorrow” A truly wonderful man, still can’t thank him enough. He’s 85 now and as fit as his horse

@WestTip1986 @EddOliver1 Pretty sure he’d been second to Little Polvier in Grand National fortnight before. First time I rode him was out hunting. He refused at tiny post and rail and got the sheep wire stuck between his shoe and hoof. He stood there for 10 mins with his paw up waiting for wire cutters!

Stumbled across this earlier… one of my favourite photos; West Tip clearing the last on his way to a 15 length victory under @Armytage in a Hunter Chase at Cheltenham as a 12yo - looks like he could go round again!
