ARPA-H is redefining what freedom and possibility can look like for people who rely on mobility devices. This week, ARPA-H performers at the University of Pittsburgh demonstrated the Robotic Assisted Mobility and Manipulation Platform, or RAMMP. This AI powered system can navigate uneven terrain, open doors, and help people who use wheelchairs move through the world with greater confidence and safety, while reducing reliance on caretakers. At its core, RAMMP is about giving people greater freedom, dignity, and independence in how they move through the world. 📸 Rayni Shiring, University of Pittsburgh @upmcnews @PittHealthSci pittwire.pitt.edu/features-artic…

For millions of Americans, many treatments for mental illness never deliver relief. This is not acceptable. @ARPA_H's EVIDENT initiative is awarding up to $139 million to accelerate the research, approval, and responsible access to breakthrough mental health treatments, including psychedelic therapies like ibogaine, to deliver real solutions for Americans with serious mental illness—especially our veterans.

America is in the middle of a mental health crisis. Half of all Americans will experience a mental or behavioral health condition, with even higher rates among veterans. Yet medical professionals still lack the objective tools needed to determine what treatments work and for whom. Too many patients are left cycling through care without clear answers. ARPA-H’s EVIDENT program is working to change that by developing new ways to measure treatment effectiveness and evaluate emerging therapies, including psychedelics. Thank you @POTUS @WhiteHouse and @SecKennedy for elevating this as a national priority through Saturday’s executive order to accelerate medical treatments for serious mental illness. ARPA-H was built to take on challenges like this and deliver Americans transformative care at rapid speed. arpa-h.gov/news-and-event…

🧠The average American has a teaspoon full of microplastics in their brain — almost 1%. That’s why we’re putting $140 million into the Systematic Targeting of MicroPlastics (STOMP) program at @ARPA_H to build a toolbox to measure, research, and remove microplastics from the human body.

This is the right problem to be focused on. Microplastics are in human blood, brain tissue, reproductive organs, and we still don’t fully understand what they’re doing to mitochondrial function, hormones, or long term disease risk. We need better detection at scale, real research on how these particles interact with human biology, and practical ways to reduce exposure now, not years from now. Start with what’s already in your control: - Clean your water. - Stop heating food in plastic. - Reduce synthetic fabrics against your skin. - Be intentional about what you’re putting in and around your body.

HHS is taking on microplastics — how we measure them, study their impact, and remove them safely from the human body. But government can’t do this alone. We want to fund your ideas. HHS is calling on the best innovators in the private sector to step up and be part of the solution. Join us April 22 at the @ARPA_H Proposers’ Day for the STOMP program. Current cancer therapies are extremely burdensome on a patient, requiring many visits to the doctor and stays in the hospital. But soon, patients may be able to receive care and be monitored without ever having to leave home. Through ARPA-H's THOR project, researchers at @RiceUniversity pad are developing a small implantable device to that will deliver the exact treatment cancer patients need, when they need it. Ambitious projects like THOR are what will lead to transformative health breakthroughs and transformative, affordable care for Americans.

What if the future of medicine was not in your medicine cabinet, but right inside your body? This is what ARPA-H's THOR project is working to achieve. ARPA-H funded researchers at @RiceUniversity are developing implantable smart-devices that will deliver treatments directly to patients. With THOR, American patients can skip continuous visits to the doctor, long wait times, and missed dosages. Affordable, effective healthcare is about more than just therapeutics, it’s about creating systems that allow for better access and treatment consistency. arpa-h.gov/news-and-event…
