Very excited to launch our newest tournament product this weekend with the beginning of the @keenelandracing meet. Introducing Bet and Set! You lock in your wagers prior to first post time. There is a large tournament base that enjoys this style of play and our product and development team has delivered it. This weekend we will be utilizing Bet and Set as Feeders for both the Preakness Preview (Friday) and the Grade 1 Gamble (Saturday). Learn more at our Tournaments hub: twinspires.com/assets/tournam…

@AndrewChampagne Funny thing is, I get more work accomplished while on vacation than that guy does any day of his life.

The Wood Memorial has produced some longshot winners in recent years and it looks like this year the race could have another chaotic result.

This week we held a focus group with some of our @TournamentsTS players asking for feedback and suggestions. Among them was @MrGus32, who suggested we start using cards earlier in the week as feeders to our Friday Bonus Feeder. We are implementing that great idea immediately next week. Those tournaments were posted today!

@EJXD2 @keenelandracing We will respond to demand as always. If it’s well received (and given that 17 people already registered for tomorrow, that seems to be a good start), we will certainly expand it.

@EJXD2 @richnilsen Can’t be the home of the horseplayer if you don’t develop and provide what people ask for.

March business... purses up 2.1% per race and handle down 11.5% is INSANE--especially considering that extra purse money led to field size declining 6.5%.

@atTheTrack7 @richnilsen Totally get it. We have different goals. I'm trying to shine a light on how awful industry business is day after day, week after week, month after month, quarter after quarter, year after year for a generation now. You're trying to increase shareholder value

Of course that’s bad. I’m not saying it isn’t. You conflate “defending” and “deflecting” with just stating facts. Fact: Fewer races, field size down. That’s bad. Also fact: When Gulfstream announced they were removing a day each week, and Oaklawn removed weekends in January and replaced them with Thursdays in March, there was no way handle wasn’t going to be down Q1.

@atTheTrack7 There is a handle/race column that reflects the changes in Gulstream's scheduling change, and despite the fewer dates/races, field size was DOWN! That's bad!

Again, for regurgitating numbers, sure. If you have a budget for a year that you have to utilize for promotions, tournament promos, etc. and you just take last years monthly spend and apply it to this years budget and I look at how the days line up each month and take into account more Saturdays in a month, whose budget is going to be more accurate, yours or mine? When you put together a handle forecast for a month, if you just copy and paste numbers from last year and I take into account an extra Saturday or one less Saturday, who is going to be more accurate you or me? The difference is, on March 1st I knew handle would be down noticeably YoY for the month. I look at the things that matter.

Years are years for sure. For purposes of regurgitating numbers, months are months. For purposes of what I do, planning, forecasting, tournaments, promotions, spend budget…5 Saturdays to 4 Saturdays matters. This month was down because of losing a Saturday YoY, another month will be up because it gains a Saturday. I note that difference in both months. You don’t think it matters. That’s all.

@atTheTrack7 @richnilsen My daily and weekly charts are like days. I think months are months, quarters are quarters, and years are years.

That’s not why I use it. I use it because when comparing performance for all the things I’m responsible for to a specific day the year before, it makes sense for me to look at a Saturday vs. Saturday. Using like date creates false performance comparisons like we will see in October for the Breeders Cup and like I said, it works both ways. Rebel Day moving to a Sunday creates a false comparison for Saturdays YoY too. April will look great on Saturdays because of the Blue Grass being moved last year. Like Date is lazy. What I do is a deep dive into making sure I understand what happened, why it happened and how I should prepare for that day next year.

You like to use "like day" because it makes you look better. I'm providing real facts and the facts are the industry fucking sucks and has not done anything to address a rot that has been going on for a generation now. Gerrymandering dates in a month to give you an extra Saturday doesn't do jack shit.

@atTheTrack7 @thestaggieman How was he not durable? Connections were ultra cautious due to his value as a stallion. Did the horse retire unsound? You can't say not great due to durability. He fired every time they let him run. A horse is great based upon ability not durability.

@EJXD2 @richnilsen And this is why I use like day for comparison and not like date. Gonna be awesome when October picks up a Saturday and gets the Breeders Cup so we can talk about how much handle is up that month because things like content and an extra Saturday don’t matter…

@atTheTrack7 @richnilsen I'm tired, boss. Preantepenultimate Saturday each month to the last Saturday. Total handle down 5.7% despite +7.8% in purses. Average handle per race -8.6%. Absolutely wretched, reprehensible numbers and blaming one less Saturday for the March tumble is senseless.
