Today, we pause to remember and honour the life and legacy of our former President, Merv Rees OBE DL FRCS, whose leadership and service played a significant role in shaping the history of AUGIS. On the day of his memorial service, we reflect not only on his time within our Association, but also on his major contribution to the advancement of liver surgery and the many patients whose lives were touched by his skill and care. We remember him with great respect, gratitude, and affection, and honour a legacy that will endure. #Legacy #Memorial #LiverSurgery

✨ Key Principles of Nutritional Care Good nutrition is essential for better patient outcomes and recovery. Here are 5 core principles to keep in mind: 🥗 Early Nutritional Screening Identify patients at risk of malnutrition as early as possible using validated tools. 👩‍⚕️ Dietitian Involvement Specialist dietitians are vital for preoperative optimisation, postoperative plans, and managing nutritional support such as feeding tubes or supplements. 💪 Prehabilitation Optimising nutrition before surgery can significantly improve recovery and outcomes. ⏳ Follow Fasting Guidelines Adhering to appropriate fasting protocols before surgery 🥣 Early Return to Nutrition Resume fluids and food as soon as it is safe to support healing and recovery #NutritionCare #NutritionAndHydrationWeek #Dietitian

Today marks the start of this year’s Nutrition and Hydration Week! Every March since 2012, Nutrition and Hydration Week has brought people together across health and social care to raise awareness of the vital role that food and drink play in maintaining health and wellbeing. 💡Why Nutrition & Hydration Matter in Upper GI Surgical Patients. Upper gastrointestinal surgery can significantly affect a patient’s ability to eat, digest and absorb nutrients. Many patients already present with malnutrition or weight loss due to conditions such as cancer, dysphagia, obstruction, or treatment side effects. Providing the right nutritional support can make a significant difference to recovery and outcomes. Good nutritional care helps to: 🥗 Improve wound healing 💪 Maintain muscle mass and strength 🛡 Reduce infection and complications 🏥 Shorten hospital stays 🔄 Support recovery after surgery 💧 Hydration is equally vital, helping to maintain circulation, kidney function and electrolyte balance. Highlighting the importance of nutrition and hydration ensures patients receive the care they need before, during and after surgery. #NutritionAndHydrationWeek #Nutrition #Hydration #UpperGI

Your sleep is essential to health and wellbeing. Good sleep promotes wellness and resilience while poor sleep negatively impacts almost all aspects of your body and mind. Your sleep is just as important as nutrition and exercise. It’s time to make your sleep health a priority! #SleepWellLiveBetter #WorldSleepDay #HealthySleep

Reflecting on Sarvjit Wünsch, 16 years at AUGIS! From modest beginnings, the Association has more than doubled in size, building a vibrant and engaged community that continues to grow year on year. Along the way, there have been fantastic milestones, including winning the Best Newcomer Award, using event technology and being named finalists for Best Association. The ASM continues to go from strength to strength, delivering outstanding programmes, welcoming record numbers of delegates, and attracting leading speakers. Partnerships with sponsors and industry partners have also grown significantly, reflecting the credibility and trust built over the years. Behind all this progress is a huge amount of hard work, passion, and leadership. A remarkable contribution and an incredible legacy, thank you Sarvjit! 👏 #Recognition #Contribution #Sweet16
