Here's a hidden tax most DeFi lenders never think about, because it's invisible: the lender-borrower spread. In any pool-based market: Aave, Compound, a Morpho vault borrowers pay one rate and lenders earn a lower one. The gap between them goes to neither side. This's the cost of pooled design and utilization-based interest rate discovery. On billions in TVL that gap is enormous, and it's a permanent tax on both sides of the trade. An orderbook doesn't have it. When a lender and a borrower match directly on a book, there's one rate, the one they agreed on. The borrow rate comes down, the supply rate goes up, and the spread that used to be socialised across all lenders and borrowers stays with exact people who actually took the risk. That’s exactly why we built BarterLend: fixed-term, fixed-rate lending matched directly on an on-chain orderbook, so borrowers can access better rates and lenders can capture more yield from the same trade.

Good map. One layer still feels structurally underbuilt: fixed-term, fixed-rate credit. Onchain banking cannot run only on variable-rate rails. Institutions eventually need to quote duration, lock funding costs, exit positions before maturity and manage rate exposure explicitly. Working on it 🫡
