Tokens—Technical Post-Mortem: Third-Party DEX Routing Issue Tokens sold through third-party platforms (Uniswap, 1inch, Matcha, etc.) incur 30-40% slippage. Tokens sold through tokens.fun execute at expected prices. Root Cause tokens.fun deploys tokens into Uniswap V4 pools paired with WETH, using custom hook contracts for dynamic fees and MEV protection. These hooks are forked from Clanker v4 (github.com/clanker-devco/…), an audited and widely used launchpad on Base. Uniswap's routing algorithm maintains an allowlist of approved hook contract addresses. Only pools using allowlisted hooks are considered for swap routing. Clanker's hook addresses are allowlisted. Our hooks, deployed from identical code at different addresses, were not allowlisted. The result: third-party routers skip our legitimate high-liquidity WETH pools and instead route through small unauthorized pools created by arbitrage bots. How Third-Party Pools Are Created Uniswap V4 is permissionless. Anyone can create a pool for any token pair. After tokens launch on tokens.fun, bots create additional pools pairing the token with USDC, ETH, and other assets with minimal liquidity to capture arbitrage.
