Baseball Prospect Tags

If you've committed or going through the recruiting process, you better be talking to players who are on the current roster. Talk to the starters and reserve players and get as much information as you can about how that coach treats their players, run practices, the philosophy of how that coach wants you to play the game. All these things matter and the more information you have the better you'll be informed when making this big decision. Ask a lot of questions, whats the vibe of the team, does coach feed the team well, does coach play favorites, does coach talk bad about players to other players, what does discipline look like, does coach punish you for losing, making an error or striking out. Talk to as many players as you can because everyone's perspective is going to be different. Don't just blindly sign an LOI because you got an offer because you will be doing yourself a disservice.

Every college coach in the country should have a standard message they send the moment they stop recruiting a player. It takes 10 seconds. And it’s 100x better than ghosting a kid who’s been talking with you for weeks or months. Something simple like: “Hey ___, we’re going to move in another direction with our recruiting. Wishing you the best in your process. If anything changes, we will reach out.” That’s it. If the player keeps responding and asks for details, you don’t owe them a scouting report or an explanation. But as the adult in the relationship, it’s the professional thing to close the loop.
