A huge congratulations to our amazing Table Cricket team who finished 2nd place in the Regional Table Cricket Competition held at the Derby County Cricket Ground! 🏏🥈We are incredibly proud of the effort, sportsmanship and resilience they showed on the day. Well done team! 👏

A huge congratulations to Grace in Westfield Post-16 for achieving her ABRSM Grade 5 Violin certificate. Grace is passionate about her music and we all love to hear Grace play. Well done Grace 🎻

Westfield 2 have been working on an Open Awards unit on painting with acrylic and oil paint. This week they have been blending colours and created some amazing pieces with blended backgrounds and silhouettes.

In Humanities, Nurture 3 have started off the year thinking about what they would like to get better at as part of self-development and setting New Year's Resolutions. Students discussed how they might improve current skills or even begin a new hobby.

Due to the snow and condition of a lot of side roads in the local area, Beech Academy will be closed today.

Year 8 have been studying Hinduism in Humanities linked to their novel When the Mountains Roared. In this book Ruby and Praveen enjoy the festivities of the Holi festival which includes throwing Gulal powder (paint powder). All year 8 students had great fun throwing Gulal powder.

This half term, Year 7 have been looking at co-ordinates and shapes in Maths. We have done lots of practical activities like plotting coordinates on the board and around the room and making 3D shapes with different materials to really explore these themes.

Post 16 at Fairholme have been working on an Enterprise Project in BTEC Employability. They have designed, marketed and manufactured cold cups to sell in school and they have been doing a roaring trade! We are so proud of the organisation, creativity and teamwork! Well done :)

In Science, Year 8 have been learning about acids and alkalis. Students took part in an experiment where they were using the universal indicator to test things like hydrochloric acid, sodium hydroxide, bicarbonate of soda, glucose, veg oil, salt solution, water and cornflour.

In Year 7 Music, the chords were strong today! We've moved on from djembe's and on to the ukelele's 🎸 Our music session was full of energy, laughter, and amazing talent from our year 7 students. A big Thank You to Mr Oakton for teaching us some tunes!

In Humanities, Year 9 have been learning about the environment and animals that live in the Arctic. Students have studied how different animals adapt to their climates such as behavioural and physical. Students created their own animal they thought could adapt to the cold.

Pudsey Bear visited Westfield yesterday whilst our very own Miss Dunn joined BBC Radio Nottingham presenters on a three-legged walk as part of their 25 mile walk around Nottinghamshire. A few students, as well as Mrs Johnson were even interviewed live on the radio!

As part of their Community Sports Leadership Award, Post-16 students at Westfield have been planning, organising, and delivering their own activities to the rest of the class. From team games to creative challenges, they’ve shown fantastic teamwork, confidence, and leadership.

Year 10 have shown us how amazing they can be in Open Awards. They are learning about illegal and legal drugs, the effects of using them and the impacts on others. All students have shown great ambition with their writing tasks and have produced some outstanding paragraphs.
