If you see wild turkeys in your neighborhood, you're seeing one of the biggest conservation wins in American history. They were down to just 30,000 birds in the 1930s. There are now over 6 million across the US. They're excellent natural pest control, eating beetles, snails, mice, and even ticks. A wild turkey in your yard isn't a pest, but a native species that almost disappeared and came back because hunters, biologists, and state wildlife agencies spent 50 years bringing it back.

I can’t wait to keep working with @GovKathyHochul to bring the 2042 Winter Olympics to New York City and Lake Placid. Having grown up in New York City and still loving their today but also spending much of my life in the Adirondacks, I’ve long believed these two regions can tell a uniquely New York story — urban and rural communities uniting behind a shared vision. This is the first step: a serious exploration of what a future Winter Olympics could mean for our economy, our infrastructure, our tourism industry, and how the world sees New York. Over the last several years, I’ve worked to build support for this idea through a white paper, op-eds in the Daily News and USA Today, legislation supporting Team USA athletes training in New York, and a trip to Milan–Cortina to study the co-hosting model firsthand. Thanks to Governor Hochul’s investments modernizing Lake Placid’s Olympic facilities, paired with New York City’s unmatched venues, transit system, and infrastructure, New York is uniquely positioned to host a successful and sustainable Winter Games. nytimes.com/athletic/73033…

For the second year in a row, Oklahoma City is one of the top two big cities in which to live! This ranking would have been inconceivable in the 1980s and 1990s, but it reflects an intentional strategy we’ve deployed ever since those challenging years. Across three decades, our residents have passed 15 votes totaling $10 billion of investment in our quality of life. Now, we’re enjoying what happens when you invest in your city. Enjoy this moment, OKC, and know that it’s not coming to an end anytime soon, because we have nearly $5 billion of that investment still rolling out over the next few years. #1OKC

@frankmorano RCV needs nationwide implementation. Even better is non-party elections. You want to run, all you should need is an application and nominal filing fee. No signatures of party people. Parties are private groups and should have no place in government primaries or elections.

Chris Rabb just won a Dem primary for Congress in PA, even though 53% of Dem voters selected another candidate. He has no opponent in the general election. He's going to DC without having faced a single GOP or independent voter. This is yet another case for ranked choice voting!

@ShaunMorash The onlytime it may have been different was '92 - '95. NYM/NYY/NYJ/NYG were all bad and baseball stopped playing. NYK/NYR ruled over the City. It was more apathy than anything else.

I think there is a big mis conception with this every spring with the Knicks. Percentage wise within the sport? Yes. but working at the Fan has taught me way more people care about football and baseball than basketball on more than on just a casual level in the tri state area.
Sam Block@theblockspot

New York is split in football. New York is split in baseball. New York is split in hockey. New York is NOT split in basketball. The Knicks run New York City. & Jalen Brunson is the King of New York.

@Noahpinion the US deficit = monetary supply. It's not like paying off a credit card. if the US pays off it's debt there would be almost no money anymore.

It appears that most fans are opposed to the Mets releasing #8 (to call up Nick Morabito) after having not issued it for 25 years. There’s been a debate over whether Gary Carter’s number should be retired, but to release it this 40th anniversary season of 1986 just seems wrong.

Nick Morabito will wear No. 8 for the Mets. No Met has worn the number since 2001.

I went to IKEA today, and it was mostly empty. Never in my life have I been to an IKEA with zero people in the checkout lanes. Especially on a Saturday. Probably not a great economic sign.

Buck O’Neill talks about the time Satchel Paige purposely walked Buck Leonard and Howard Easterling to face Josh Gibson. Everyone thought he was crazy but Satchel ended up striking him out of three straight pitches. Best thing you’ll watch today.

AJ Ewing being called up means Luis Robert is really, really far away from coming back, woof. It "feels" desperate, but Ewing has more than earned it, even if his time in AAA was short. A little surprising, but extremely exciting
