Except he's wrong. The system we're describing is entirely different from the D&D one released back in the 70's.
In the original D&D system you utilized your gold haul to tabulate awarded XP. However, once awarded the XP and the Gold were viewed as entirely seperate resources.
In the system where gold *is* XP, as per soulslikes when you say, bought a sandwich at the local inn you *lost* XP, if you picked up a gold piece you were 1 xp richer.
English

Gold for XP is a terrible method of character advancement, one seemingly drawn from Soulslikes without recognizing that RPGs rarely function like Soulslikes for a reason.
Using Gold/Souls/Runes to buy levels breaks so many aspects of rpg play, where you have to at least nominally contend with free thinking players, that it becomes silly on its face.
In such a system is the King just a God? Do miners level up as soon as they find some or does it have to be turned into coins first? Can other objects be turned into levels and if I can just level up with my gold why don't u just level up and take whatever you have of value that I want? Where does the gold go? Just into someone else's pockets? Into the city coffers? When you slay someone do they explode jingle jangle?
And these are just narrative questions.
Does the guy in the party who buys stuff level up slower? Every healing potion Doug takes makes Sally level up slower.
This system works well in Soulslike and almost nowhere else for a reason.
It's the same reason D&D doesn't determine class by the first suit you touched that day only to lose it and revert back to a commoner the first time a turtle bites you.

@Goblinfights @Dungeoneerhere I don’t care about realism. i just want more types of rewards for PCs. Having gold be XP means I have one less choice.
English

@EndWokeness CHICAGO TRIBUNE. Whole article. Not a SINGLE mention that the killer was an illegal.
Written by known Leftist, Caroline Kubzansky, it's not surprising they view this woman's slaughter as an acceptable loss in support of Sanctuary City policies.

English

@SandyofCthulhu I really like it when you talk about horror. Please do so more often, if'n it suits you.
English

The Evil Dead, Re-Animator, and The Thing defined all horror from the 80s on.
Michael Sellars | Horror Writer@HorrorPaperback
Stephen King described The Evil Dead (1981) as "the most ferociously original horror film of the year". I think it was the most ferociously original horror film of the 20th century. #horror #horrormovies
English

The least horrifying thing about this isn't the telepathy. Though make no mistake, that's what this is. The machine reads brain waves and converts them into sounds. Which you THINK sounds horrifying, but that's not the scary part, no.
No, here's the ACTUAL horror is that this video was released Jan 31, 2012.
This tech is nearly a decade and a half old. Think it's gotten any better since? Think they've done any upgrades?
Yeah. And while you're considering that consider where it gets truly freaky.. As in why haven't we been hearing about this tech? Why are you hearing about functional telepathy tech from some random fairy lady on X?
You think some enterprising government staffer just looked at this and said "Nah, I'd rather not be able to literally read people's minds?"
Or do you think this is another one of those strange little technologies that gets brought up now and again that nobody ever thinks too deeply about..
English

@BlackDumpling It's not drawn from soulslikes
It's foundational to TTRPGs
English

@InvictaVtube Frosting? No. Homey, I use the word icing very intentionally.
English

@BlackDumpling This is just you admitting you like frosted pizza while using us Pineapple Pizza enjoyers as a shield.
English

@Wyrding_Tech In fairness, Noland seems to be doing alright... @ModdedQuad how you holding up?

English

@BlackDumpling I pity Noland.
Look up electrolysis cell death.
I've been warning people since the 1970s when this sh!t started.
You need a carbon lead (graphene, turbostratic) with encephalitic generation of current.
You can't feed current to the subject, or the brain cells burn.
English

Something something two weeks to flatten Tehran.
Yes, you're being primed to support sending boots on the ground to Iran. Expect to see more of "Well, they're just special op missions...".
110,000 American soldiers on the ground later? Maybe. We'll see.
But the argument that this would be shock and awe, smash and grab is looking less likely daily.

English

@BlackDumpling Most of the "dysgenic horrors" are the dying echoes of the scarcity based power structures
If we get this inflection point right, the future can be unbelievably good for everyone
English

@mizanyx You live in a world of unbelievable abundance. Right now. And we're trying it your way. Right now.
And all it's produced, right now, is dygenic horror.
English

@BlackDumpling It belongs to a world where scarcity was the main driver, while we are building a world for abundance as the main vision of the future
English

@mizanyx You believe it cruel to direct the reproductive drive into civilizational success?
English

@BlackDumpling Do you realize how cruel is using humankind's neuroses as civilizational fuel?
We need to reengineer incentives around this, using technology and knowledge
