Fire isn’t just destruction in the boreal, it’s renewal. For generations, Indigenous knowledge has recognized that fire strengthens ecosystems, supports regrowth & revitalizes berry patches. “Good fire” helps maintain balance & can even reduce the risk of more severe wildfires.

From Artist’s Conk (’Q. Brown) to Rufous Milkcap and delicate Mycena (J. Melograna), fungi help keep the Boreal Forest alive.🍄 They break down organic matter, return nutrients to the soil, and are part of the hidden underground networks that support life.🍄‍🟫

The boreal forest contains ~25% of the world’s wetlands and stores 12% of global land-based carbon.🌿 These ecosystems have been locking away carbon for thousands of years. Protecting them keeps that carbon in the ground and helps fight climate change.
